Unhappy Vista WMDC Issues

I'm having problems syncing my xv6700 with Windows Mobile Device Center. I'm running Vista Ultimate x64. I downloaded the updated USB driver from Microsoft. When I connect, I hear the USB recognition sound. Then I hear another sound and WMDC starts the connection process but then disconnects. It stays connected for about 5 seconds. It does this every time. I have uninstalled WMDC and the driver and reinstalled. The same problem occurs. I am running the clean and simple AKU 3.5 for any Apache. I've tried to connect with RNDIS enabled and also the serial way using the USB toggle application. It only gets the brief connection with RNDIS. I've searched the net and this forum (along with PPCgeeks.com) and can't find a solution to this problem. It seems like WMDC sucks. ActiveSync with XP was much better. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it? Please help!!!!

I forgot to mention. I don't have any firewalls other than the Vista firewall. I tried disabling that and defender with no luck.

Through the Microsoft newsgroups (thanks Abdulkadar), I was able to resolve this (hopefully permanently) by doing the following.

You'll need to allow a program through Windows Firewall. This can be found in the left hand navigation when you open Firewall. Under the exceptions tab, you'll need to add the following ports:

TCP:

* 990
* 999
* 5678
* 5721
* 26675

UDP:

* 5679

When you add the ports, there will be an option to change scope. You click on that and allow the port for my network only.

hrm... am trying this but I use Norton that seems to run my computer. I wonder if Norton is to blame here since I've turned off my windows firewall.

This is good info though.
