Custom ROMs frighten me!

I'd really like to use a new ROM as I keep reading that there are general device speed increases, but every thread about a new ROM contains tons of horror stories from people who can't get them to work right or there are all kinds of bugs and such and it makes me really afraid to try it. I have my phone completely hacked out and working perfectly. I'm really afraid to leave the comfort zone but would like to get the speed increases as I've always thought the xv6700 was sluggish compared to my previous PDAs.

I have the original ROM from when I bought the phone a year ago...what would that be Version 1?

If you take your time and follow the instructions you really will have no problems. I have two 6700's (Prolly sell one soon), and have flashed each of them numerous times with no problems. I did last night flash the one I am using now back to Col3.3 beta3 because I have some steady work coming up and wont have time to play or experiment. I personally would suggest you start with that, it runs with no probs for me. There may be some here who would suggest a good 3.5 release as well but thats the one I am using for now.

cant be put any simpler. if you want to tinker with your device, its a risk. just follow the directions carefully and you will not have any problems. but beware its a risk you could muck up the device. tread lightly....
