Stock AKU 3.5 for any Apache

First, the bona fides...

Based on Unified ROM Project 1.2 Pre-release. This is as close as you can get to UT Starcom's AKU release and still get the benefits of AKU 3.5.

Removed:
Wireless Modem (doesn't work on 3.5, use Internet Sharing instead)

Added:
.NET 2.0 Compact Frameworks are preinstalled.

Okay, here's how you use this. Follow this step by step, and nobody gets hurt.

1. Hard reset your phone. As mentioned above, you don't need Clear Storage to do this. Hold down both soft buttons with one hand and poke the reset hole with the other, ideally while holding a stylus in the second hand, unless you have really pointy fingers.

2. Put your phone in Bootloader mode. This is a special condition that prepares the phone to rewrite the ROM. While holding down both the power and record buttons, poke the reset switch, again with a stylus. The backlight should go off and the screen will say "Serial". When you put it in the crade, the screen will change to say "USB" and the backlight will stay off. This is normal. Wait for Windows to recognize the new USB device before moving on.

3. Run Kirvin AKU 3.5 Stock.exe. Keep clicking Next until it's done. Do NOT remove your phone from the cradle until it tells you to! Seriously. Don't make me come over there.

4. When told to remove your phone from the cradle, pull it out and hard reset it again. Congratulations! You're running AKU 3.5, probably the closest to Windows Mobile 6 we Apache owners will ever get!

Finally, the download link:

JEff:

Thanks.

I'm guessing that since this is a "clean" ROM image, it loads nothing aside from the .net 2.0; no programs, nothing but the CE ROM image?

Correct?

Thanks again. I'll give it a try this PM.

Nope, this has all the other stuff you'd get from HTC/UTStarcom. You've got ClearStorage, the goofy T9 input panel, it's all there. This is just like installing an official ROM except that it's 3.5.

O.K. I get the "Country ID" Error when trying to flash a VZW XV6700.

Seems I read of a work-around, but don't remember where.

I know this is a newb question but what do you mean by Internet Sharing? I use my Wireless Modem everyday and i'm not sure if upgrading to 3.5 would be a good idea if laptop tethering is disabled with this rom.

I'm searching the forums for resolution to the Country ID error now - anyone have a thread or link to help?

Thanks,

Joe G.

It's a new app you'll see after you flash your ROM that replaces Wireless Modem.

My bad, I've got the install running the Sprint updater. I've fixed it and I'm reuploading the ROM now.

Hey, thanks Jeff! I tried a fix I found over at PPCGEEKS.com, but it said extract the EXE and run ROMUpgradeUt.exe, but that didn't work, either.

I'll wait for the new upload.

Thanks again.

Awesome. It's installing now, so I'll report results as they go. I'm trying your "No Junk" version first...

Could not get 3.5 to load

Ok...so I tried many different versions of 3.5 to no avail. I even tried it in RUU mode. I either fot the "wrong device" error when just clicking on the exe, or I got the "could not communicate with your device" error in RUU mode. As a workaround, I started the latest sprint stock loader, copied the nbf file to the temp file created by the sprint loader. Does it matter about the radio and the ms_ file?

No, I don't install either of those nbfs, so you should be fine.

Well, it worked just fine on my Alltel 6700. Does seem to respond a bit quicker. Nice to have A2DP without the hack, too. Thanks, Jeff!
