It'll work on any Apache from any carrier.

Bluetooth fix?

Jeff,

Did you or any of the other 3.5 Roms ever fix the Bluetooth DUN issue? I read that there was a fix, but only for certain types of Bluetooth drivers.

Thanks.

Hats off to Jeff! Easy upgrade for all of us thanks to Jeff's excellent work.

The Sprint nojunk version has been running perfectly for a week now with no problems. This is truly a faster and MUCH cleaner ROM image. The only minor known glitch is the picture messaging/MMS (which I never use anyway – maybe someone has a workaround – text messaging is fine for me) and the need (as someone indicated) to kill the ActiveSync WCESCOMM process in XP before using Internet Sharing to tether (and adding your Sprintpcs userID and password to the Sprint connection) - certainly not show stoppers.

I'm running the standard goodies like MortPlayer, TCPMP as well as OnCourse Navigator (LiveSearch works well too using Com4 for the bluetooth GPS BT-33, Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 (don't forget the Apache Fix for the buttons if you need it), Remote Display Control, Opera 8.6 , Netfront 3.3 (when string search is needed – PIE seems better now though so I’m mainly using that with the SPB PP plug-in), TRE, VJDeviceLock, SPB Pocket Plus 3.1.2, SPB Backup, Sprite Backup, SlingPlayer Mobile (Orb via IE, Media Player). I did a hard reset and restore from my Sprite Backup and that worked fine too to restore my fully loaded AKU 3.5 ROM personalized (I thought that was worth testing).

I also sync my contacts and appointments/meetings with Exchange and still have 30MB free storage and 27MB free for programs, even with VC1.6, SPB PP and ActiveSync running.

I can't believe how fast the PPC-6700 boots now and everything runs snappy (everything). Yeah, the BT drivers built in now still skip but I'm not sure if that is the drivers or player or devices - it's certainly not any worse.

Battery life seems very good. Great work! Definitely a keeper!

I bought Sprite 5 and used it when I upgraded from orginal verizon to the official aku with MSFP. The restore didn't work between AKU's which I can understand but it made me wary of using it to restore. I was pretty new to WM5 last time I tried. What verion of Sprite are you using. I guess I should back up my new Kirvin No-Junk - it took me a few hours to get everything tweaked again.

So you hard reset from the AKU 3.5 and restored with Sprite and everything is stable? Did you restore from SD Card?

Thanks

I am using Sprite 5.1.0 build 1447 dsteinschneider. As you suspected, you cannot restore to a different ROM so that should not make you wary. I took backups as I went along loading programs on the new Kirvin clean build for sprint and have restored a few times with no problems. I always do a hard reset before the restore from the SD card backup. Everything is always stable after a restore. You only get into trouble installing programs that are not stable themselves for the specific device, hence always good to do a backup prior to any new software installations or tweaking the registry, etc. Honestly even if you don't have a backup program (AND don't have data you have not backed up to your pc - always a good practice to have backup/copies in multiple locations), it's pretty quick to reload everthing but for a few bucks it's nice to have a backup/restore application like sprite. The only program that is unstable is Netfront - frequently hangs but it's on my ppc only for when I really need to use the search function within a web page.

I have a Sprint 6700 but I would 'assume' your Verizon 6700 would run Sprite equally as well.

Thanks again to Jeff. Excellent work.

Thanks for the advice on Sprite, just reinstalled and backed up. If something goes wrong with the phone at this point it will be great to know I can restore easily. In my Palm OS Treo days I was a big fan of BackupMan.

I deploy Blackberry 8700's and Treo 700's as part of small business tech consulting. Bbusiness users don't customize the phone much, sync to Exchange on data plans and prefer exposed keyboards. After spending so much time with Treo's I decided to replace the 6700 with one but thanks to Jeff I'm now more than happy with the it.

Will this work ok on a Verizon XV6700?

Sorry for the newbie questions... seems the more I read - the more confused I get.

I obviously don't need any of the Sprint stuff.

1. how do I load this without the Sprint stuff?

2. how do I reload any Verizon stuff I need?

3. Sorry... what is the extended ROM - and how/why do I access it?

4. What is a kitchen ROM?

Thanks...

ROM upgrade steps

I hear you on "the more you read the more confused". Jeff's No-Junk is fine for either Sprint or Verizon.

The initial install is to:

*Warning* - those of you who don't sync to Outlook need to find a copy of it and sync - the process below wipes out your contacts, calendar, tasks and notes. BTW I lost my speed dials but didn't care because I dial using Voice Command and don't really use them.

0. Sync to outlook and remove unit from usb connection, cradle etc

1. Hard reset.
- Hold both soft buttons while poking the reset hole once.

3. Choose yes when it comes backup up and press spacebar to reboot (This is where Jeff is talking about not needing to clear storage by clicking OK)

4. It restarts as though its the first time the phone been used.

5. Hold power and record down and poke the reset hole again - this is
referred to as bootloader. The crazy thing about this step is that the backlight doesn't work. You have to tilt the screen to make sure it says Serial.

6. Plug the unit into cradle or serial cable - display will change to USB and the computer will recognize the unit as though you've plugged a brand new USB device in

7. Now run the exe from Jeff (doubleclick on Kirvin_AKU_3.5_NoJunk.exe)

8. Jeff's program will walk you through several steps and tell you exactly what to do. This is where the ROM behind the scenes - the one that the phone will re-install from going forward is replaced (burned).

9. At the end you will be instructed to hard reset again (hold both soft keys and poke reset hole)

10. The phone will come up with a new dark blue screen that credits Hemi_C and other ROM luminaries

11. The phone will see that it needs to be installed and will read that new ROM to install the OS

12. Once its done its VERY IMPORTANT that you hard reset again. I hard reset three times because people mentioned here that subsequent hard resets solved some issues. Don't hard reset until you get to the today screen and it stops doing things EXCEPT if you get a little box that says in 3 seconds it will start installing Verizon (Sprint) customizations. If you see that poke the reset hole (soft reset). In my case the only important thing that doesn't happen when I prevent those customizations from taking place is I have to manually setup the data connection which is detailed in the next step. Preventing the customizations saves space in your Programs memory. I don't use MMS (picture mail) or really any Verizon specific stuff like that.

13. Now you need to setup internet access. I only know the verizon setup which is:
- Start>Settings>Connections
- click on connections
- Manage existing connections under MY ISP
- Click the New button
- Name it whatever you like in the "Enter a Name for the connection:"
- Choose Cellular Line in the "Select a Modem:"
- Tap Next
- Put in #777 in the "Enter the number exactly....."
- Enter your phone number@vzw3g.com (I only know Verizon's)
- Enter password vzw (again only know Verizon)
- Leave the domain slot blank
- Hit next and finish

14. You now have a snappy, crossbow themed 6700

I can't seem to get past the "Error 101: Connection Error".

I hard reset, put the phone in Serial/USB mode, run the update, and every time it comes up with the "Device software update utility is having trouble connecting to your device".

Has anyone else run this update in Vista?

Help with Extended ROM

Thanks for the info - I believe that answered the questions about the Verizon stuff. Doesn't sound like I really need anything except the Data connection.

I quit using the Wireless Sync and Pocket Outlook when I did their DST update and it loaded a new Wireless Sync client on my phone that I never got to work with WIFI. (I've since gone to FlexMail 2007 RC 1527 build and its working great).

Can you (or anyone else) help explain about the Extended ROM. From what I gather - it is still somewhere on the main phone - not an External miniSD card that I can programs - but somehow not using the normal memory???

How do I access it - How to I use it?

I have many of my programs running off the miniSD (I got a 4G miniSD to work) - but I would like the speed of running them from the phone.

Just to answer my own question, it doesn't work with Vista. At least it didn't for me. I booted up an XP machine and ran the update without a hitch.

How do I view Picture Mail in full size? I went to the link I was sent and now it takes me to the Sprint site that looks similar to the page you visit when you send pictures to an e-mail address through Sprint.

Sorry, this won't work with an 8125. It's designed for the HTC Apache only. (The 8125 is the HTC Wizard.)

Hmmm... speaking of DST updates, is it included in this ROM?

Yes, quite bothersome isn't it? It's like everything is there, it just won't click on the button to "Go" for some reason. I've tried everything as well, even tabbing to it and hitting enter... doesn't work

I have no clue what happened but everything is working perfectly now. I didn't tweak any settings with my browser and Picture Mail works perfectly. Strange. Sorry I can't help you out...I wish I knew what I did.

I installed this ROM and so far so good - actually, so great. It is much cleaner, faster and so far (2 days) much more stable.

I had previously unlocked my extended ROM and made it visible, and deleted the junkware there. When I upgraded to this new ROM I just used the prior .CABs. Are there more recent Sprint .CABs for the extended ROM designed for 3.5 ROMs that I should download from somewhere? If so, fromwhere? If I replace my older ones, can I simply hard reset, let the new .CABs install, and then do a restore, or do I have to re-install all my programs again?

Also, do tweaking programs such as Tweak2knet work with the new 3.5 ROMs?

Weird question, but has anyone else noticed a significant decrease in in-call volume after upgrading? My phone didn't used to be THAT loud, but I noticed right after upgrading to this ROM that even when turned all the way up, I can *barely* hear conversations on the phone.

The wired headset that comes with the phone still works fine and is very loud, just the integrated phone call speaker is affected.

??
