Aluminum case, poor in-call issues

ive decided to give up my good looking neoprene lined aluminum case for my xv 6700 as ive come to the conclusion that it was causing poor reception /voice quality. A few test calls with and without the case proved it was causing the person on the other end to hear me more like a robot rather than the 'ol verizon "good!"...

so dangit now i gotta buy a screen protector..

any one else had this problem

I hadn't heard about that particular problem. But a search of case reviews on this forum would have revealed dozens of negative reviews on that particular case. I had it, and I can't say I really enjoyed using it. I had to open it for everything I needed to do.

For a replacement, search the forum before making a purchase. But I've been very happy with the Seidio crystal case/leather case combo. The crystal case allows you to use any part of the phone with it on - and the leather case protects the screen while traveling. I also like the look and feel.

I've been using the aluminum case since Christmas and haven't had any problems. Well ... except for one. I've dropped it a couple of times and the memory card will go flying. It's protected the phone, but I have to search for that little memory chip.

God help me if they ever switch to the micro sized chips. I'll never find it again! :O

Actually I have had the exact same problem. When in a fringe area I frequent I missed lots of calls (and especially before ring-through update). I would take it out of the case when in those areas or take it out when I made a call. One thing -- I did notice that the extended battery case worked a little better with the battery cut-out in the back, so I mostly use that particular case now.

For all helmets, we noticed a 30 db amplification at 2.6 Ghz and a 20 db amplification at 1.2 Ghz, regardless of the position of the antenna on the cranium. In addition, all helmets exhibited a marked 20 db attenuation at around 1.5 Ghz, with no significant attenuation beyond 10 db anywhere else.
Aluminum isn't a very good radio shield. I run with mine in an alu. case, seems fine to me. But I guess if you were on the very edge of coverage, it might make a difference.
