Hey guys I was wondering if you could help me out setting remote desktop up.

I enabled remote desktop on my computer already. Next I set up the port 3389 in my firewall (I use ms onecare). I not sure about some of these settings. It asks for the connection if its inbound outbound or both. And then it asks for the scope, Internet or local?

After that I setup the router info. I did as previously posted; remote 3389 3389 IP address. Is the IP address I enter here the one that is given from running ipconfig?

Next I connect using wifi to my network. At this point the connection on my wm6 device ask if I want a work connection or internet? Next I go into remote desktop. Under computer to I enter in the network IP address, For example the one that a website like whatsmyipaddress.com would give. Then I give my user name and password. Do I leave the domain blank?

After playing with all these different settings I get the same error as people above have posted.

Any Help would be a HUGE help. thanks

Unhappy RDP Mobile 6 + VPN

Hi Guys, Has anyone found a way to get Remote Desktop Mobile 6 (on WM6) to automatically initialise a VPN connection when you click connect? I can get it to work if I manually connect the VPN first but this is a backward step from WM5 as it connected to the VPN automatically using exceptions (but not the case with WM6 RDP). I have tried out using exceptions to initiate the VPN and it works OK if I try to open an address (that is in the exception list) through Internet explorer. I also noticed that the manual VPN connection drops out if the email client checks for email which was also was disabled automatically on WM5 when VPN is in use!
Any help would be appreciated.

i've installed RDP onto an HTC Advantage x7501 (WM6). it seems to work with at least one computer. i plan to test it on others as well.
However, the porgram only runs the first time. when i exit and try to run again the device locks up and i have to reset it. i can then run it one more time...
any suggestions as to why this may occur?

Timeout

I have install in on my Dell Axim x51v running WM5. After about 10 idle minutes connected to my XP system, I get a message on the PDA that the session has timed out. Looking at another forum, someone else has the same problem and he switched to Z2 remote2PC. I have gone into XP and changed all the group policy settings I have seen on other posts, I don't think this is the problem, because I have a Nokia N800 internet tablet and I have no issues with timeouts. Anybody else having this issue before I go ahead and purchase Z2 remote2PC. I am using my Axim as a remote control front end to my HA software...so I don't need anything as fancy as Z2 remote2PC, I just need it not to timeout. I am also using the hack to get 3 RDP sessions into my XP if that matters, which it shouldn't. Anyone else seeing this?

I have been using this for over a year and have not had any problems. You might try logmein, they have a free version that also lets both users see and interact. Works well with troubleshooting.

I have had problems when i connect to a dsl conneection on the remote.

Hope this helps.

on my ppc6700 running wm5 I have this program running fine from the main memory when I'm on my own wifi network.
however, it does not work anywhere else. I do have a data plan (on it right now).
I did enter a 192.xxx ip address which another website directed me to do. I tried using what I thought was my ip addy bbut it didn't work even over my home network. is there another way to check that I'm using the correct one? my ip address dot com or something? seems like it has to be the problem....
thanks.

Thanks for this ported version. In July 2007 I have bought a HTC X7500 with WM5 that has Terminal services client. In October I made the upgrade to WM6 and I was disappointed with lack of Remote desktop services since I was search in help for terminal and says that to connect to remote computer is need to go to Start > Programs > Remote Desktop Mobile, but it wasn't here. Now I installed this version and solves my problem....

Thks again...

Have you let it sit idol for more than 10 minutes? I have tried this client on two different PDAs (Axim and iPAQ) and have tried to RDP into multiple XP systems and a Windows 2003 server system with the same result...after 10 idol minutes the connection times out. It works great for me other than that...but this timeout issue is driving me crazy. And as I said...I have no timeout issues if I use the native Terminal Services client.

Well I guess I give up on this. After upgrading my Axim x51v to Windows Mobile 6, in hopes that it would work, it still times out after 10 minutes.

Hi All,
I am a complete newbie to pda phones and was quite excited to find this site! I am very interested in Remote Desktop and downloaded the zip file (containing a cab file) referenced in a post above by finster869. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to get it installed on my ATT 8525 running WM 6. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Doug

Applicability of the cab file

Here is a cab file so all can enjoy. Simply unzip it and install the cab file on yoru device and you will have WM6 Mobile Remote Desktop Client to use. Terminal Services will not be effected by this program, it runs independently.
Finster, This cab is great news. Do you know whether it is device specific or will it work on my HTC3600i with WM6?

Thanks for posting the cab.

I'm using Dopod D810 too. Tried connecting remote desktop by 3G connection to my Windows XP desktop and got the following error on mobile:

Cannot connect. Likely reasons are:
1. The remote computer is not set up for this.
2. Reached the maximum number of connections.
3. A network error occured while connecting.

for 1st reason, remote desktop has already been setup on my desktop, 2nd reason doesn't seem applicable as no other computers are connecting to it.

Anyone can help on this? Thanks

WM5 w/RDP

Do I need Wifi or can i access through provider network.
Im using a Treo700wx with WM5 and Finster RDP. Application installed and running, but can not access Local/remote pc.
Terminal Service connection is functional. Currently forwarding RDP port via FIOS Router.

Do i need to be on the same network?
Can I RDP to my public ip if its forwarded?
Do I need to VPN in?

RDP via pc works normally from outside?

Thanks
Hal

If your Treo can access internet anyway whatsoever - then the answer to your queries is:

Do i need to be on the same network? No
Can I RDP to my public ip if its forwarded? Yes, if your computer is enabled to receive RD, but only in XP Pro, and Vista Business/Ultimate. Not sure about the Home series (Vista stinks).
Do I need to VPN in? No

RDP via pc works normally from outside? Outside - yes (ex. at a doctor appointment), Inside - yes (at home, or at your ma's place).

Your Treo is essentially a PPC (pocket personal computer), and you're able to do RDP with no problem - that is if you're using Windows Mobile 5 or 6, but I don't know what operating system you have on it which could be questionable.

Good luck

James

Hi all, I have only been able to find this solution to the remote desktop onm WM6 problem. I have downloaded and unzipped the folder for the .cab file, but I have not been able to install it. Usually there is a setup icon or an .exe file within the folder.

I don't know how to run the .cab file.

Can anyone help please?

Thank you

Neville

just put the .cab file somewhere on your phone's memory, not storage card, and run it. it will produce an installation screen from there.
