Unhappy Stop the 10 minute idle timeout

Hi All,

Anyone know how to stop it timing out after 10 minutes?

I have made all the necessary changes to Vista ultimate (64bit) and if I connect using the normal terminal services or a pc there are no time out issues at all. With the WM6 version, it breaks the connection after exactly 10 minutes. I have keepalive set on the pc as well as the group policy and as said other clients do not time out, only the WM6 version (on both my handhelds).

The main one I want it to stop timing out on is a Dell Axim 51v which I have built into my bathroom wall to control the media center on the vista ultimate machine (radio, music etc in the bathroom). The vista machine has been hacked to allow multiple RDP connections and this works fine - as mentioned above.

Unfortunately media center won't open with the dell provided terminal services application as it needs a higher colour depth.

I have scoured the web and have found one other person with the same issue but no solutions. (Could there be a registry setting??).

I don't want to use other software like z2remote as this will mean that I will have to log into the console session on the PC and that would be a real pain....

Any help would be great,
Unhappy

However, I am not able to RDP into the machine from the PDA.
I have use WINS names, DNS names, IPs with no success.

I get:

Likely reasons are:
1. Specified computer name or ip does not exit
2. A network error occured while establishing the connection. "

Any idea?

Can I access a computer that has XP Home version or do I need Professional. If Professional is needed is there a work around?

Also, is there some web site that describes how it works on the client end and a step by step routine for overall set up?

Quick question on this: Is it possible to force the screen resolution on the desktop you are connecting to? When I RDP onto our Terminal Server it sets the screen res down from 1280 to 800 x 600, is there any way to stop this?

Hello, I'm having VPN issues. I had a Treo 700Wx and used RDP on WM5 constantly. I had it running perfectly using VPN to get to my work so I could administer Servers.

Now with my Mogul (which I love so far, despite the winers) I was disappointed with the lack of RDP. I installed your CAB and it remotes beautifully with WiFi at my office.

I've setup VPN just as I did with WM5, but it won't connect via RDP. I did test and using just IE it will dial up my VPN as it should to the exception I entered.

I'm guessing there is a hook or reg setting missing in the RDP cab.

Anyone have the ability to help??

Did you read my posts...#22 and #29?

No - there's no registry setting to alter on the mobile RDP. It's how you may have the connection set up from your device to access the cellular network/internet.

Do you have a dataplan? I know you mentioned you got it working via wifi, but I'm starting to notice more and more people are getting cellular and wifi network connection mixed up, or assume it's the same thing, but it's not.

Anyways, check the posts mentioned here, and double check again. Then get back here and we'll assist you when we can.

Been using it for over a year, and never been able to manipulate this setting. It's a free add-on, and if you want to alter settings, you'd be better off paying for other VPN/RDP mobile applications like Moca and R2Remote or something like that.

Yes I understand the difference...

WiFi that 802.11g stuff, works fine as I am on my private network.

Sprint Unlimited Dataplan on the CDMA network I need to Dial my VPN to get access to my corporate lan.

The Hacked CAB provided here, doesn't seem to have the ability to dial my VPN based on my Exception rules in my Connection properties. I have set up fresh box on my DMZ and I can connect to it, so the RDP is initiating the CDMA network just fine.

I have found that if I stop Direct Push and Manually dial my VPN under connections over the Sprint CDMA network I can use your RDP without error. (leaving DP on, disconnects my VPN as it wants to sync)

All I'm asking is for the RDP to automatically dial my VPN based on my exception rules.

No Mouse?

Just curious if anyone else has experienced an inability to move about the screen. I got the cab to install on my dash - I can connect to a remote server, login (keyboard works fine) but then I'm stuck. Can't pan around the screen - directional pad does nothing.

Anyone else see this?

Install it on your mobile device, not on the card.
You'll have to uninstall, and do it again.

Yup, not to the card, still won't dial my VPN.

Seems to work well without scrolling using Nyditot screen res app.

Trouble installing the RDC

Hi -- can someone help a beginner. I downloaded the .cab and extracted all of the files. When I tried to open the set up file, I get Internet Explorer with an Active X security error. If I allow active x to run, I see a bunch of code...however activesync doesn't find a new program to load onto the smart phone...

Can someone help with more specific instructions on getting the remote desktop client onto my windows mobile 6 (ATT Tilt) phone?

Thanks in advance.

VPN RDP Issues

Can anyone help me with this configuration?

I have a i760 on Verizon coming in Monday. Getting rid of a BB8830 due to the BIS propriatary needs. Sure wish RIM would offer a VPN / RDP solution other than BIS.

I need to have this function as my PC does, logging into my work network via VPN and then going RDP to various servers and desktops. The Servers are 2003 and desktops are XP Pro. (Vista....I don't need no stinking Vista!)

I have a PIX firewall (PPTP) and no problems loggin in from anywhere. I have seen the zip file posted on one of the threads here and it seems that it should work fine. But I would appreciate some input from one who has already been down this road.

Thanks for you time!

This is awesome! Finally, a remote desktop client that will allow me to use alternate ports besides 3389! The engineers at our office all have alternate ports for accessing their PCs, and this never worked on the RDP tool in WM5.

Right now I'm using the WM6 emulator to test Exchange ActiveSync with our new Exchange 2007 environment, and ran across this post when trying to look up WTF happened to the utility in WM6. We're looking to move to the PPC 6800 after the first of the year (new every 2 with Verizon), and I'll make sure this gets deployed on all of our phones.

You need a Touchscreen Device to be able to pan the screen. You also need the touchscreen to do any mouse functionality on the host machine, like clicking the start menu.

Have you tried choosing the 'Fit Desktop to Screen' option? You still couldnt click anything, but maybe there are keyboard shortcuts to help.

Toggle Full Screen On/Off

This is probably a silly question. Using WM6 RDP just fine on my new HTC Touch, can navigate the screen, can pan, but I cant' seem to get back to a "windowed" screen (besides closing the program) after selecting Full Screen. Tried tap, tap and hold, TouchFlo, etc.

RDP over VPN on WM6

Quote:
Originally Posted by my95z34 View Post

Hello,

In addition to the above, I have exactly the same issue.

What I can do - no issues seen so far:
Connected via ActiveSync, I can use RDP and connect without any issues to our W2k3 server park.
When I am on the road, I use a 3G cellular connection. Connecting to the internet works without any problems. Over this 3G internet connection, I'm setting up a VPN tunnel to the company. No error messages here: when I click on the connection icon, it tells me I'm connected to VPN.

When I check my IP address via the free tools from Cambridge, VxUtil etc, I can see there's a public internet address 81.x.x.x on my cellular. I would expect another adapter in that same list, displaying me a private IP address from the VPN, but it is not there. Don't know whether this is a shortcoming of VxUtil or not. Let's say it is not, I tried to ping the servers in our private range, thinking I have setup a working VPN connection, but I get time outs...

Now that made me think that our current setup does not allow RDP over VPN, and maybe we need to open some ports on our ISA firewall...
I made an analog connection to the internet (using the PSTN line, plugged into our fax machine), over that connection I set up a VPN tunnel to the company, and then I managed to connect to the servers via RDP without any issues, so the setup seems to be okay...

So then I need to come back to the VPN connection on the WM6 PDA: I should be able to see a 192.168.8.x address, once I have established my connection. Should I be able to see this using the IPConfig tool from Cambridge, or... ?

Anyone else next to the ppl in this thread, having similar issues setting up RDP over a VPN tunnel over a cellular link (3G).

Thanks again,
Mario

Wow ok. Thank you so much for the program. I got a phone with Windows Mobile largly because of the remote desktop ability. Or at least I thought should have had the remote desktop ability. I just got the new Verizon Wireless XV 6800. Don't understand why so many carriers are disabling this function...alas. But because of this thread and program I instantly registered with this forum. Thanx again!!
