xv6700 notification alert won't go away

I received a notification that I had a new voice message. After retrieving the message the 'notification' alert stayed at the bottom of the today screen. Clicking still shows I have a voice message. Clicking dismiss does not eliminate the notification alert. I have the lastest software upgrade. I have tried a soft reset but no luck. Anyone have a suggestion on how to get rid of the 'notification' alert? Thanks.

Interesting: Awhile ago I set an alarm on my Sprint PPC6700, turned it off, and won't go away either. In fact, every time I soft-reset the phone, it vibrates and chimes at me!

From the today screen:
1. Press the green phone.
2. Select Menu
3. Select Options
4. Select Services
5. Scroll down to find 'voicemail' it is below roaming, TTY Mode etc.
6. Highlight it.
7. Press 'get settings'
8. Press 'clear'

Problem should be solved.

Followed your suggestions, however, I don't have a voicemail option. I only have: Location settiing, voice privacy, network service, TTY mode, Time Synchronization and Alert. I disabled alert but that didn't work.

Ran a search for you... I'm a nice person. Turns out for your phone you'll need to edit the registry to get this "dismiss" option:

On my Verizon 6700 with the updated ROM, there are two hidden phone settings in the registry. These are located at HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting
The first is HiddenDeleteVM with a value of 1
The second is HiddenPreferenceMode with a value of 1
Change both of these values to 0 (ZERO) and soft reset your phone. Then go to 'Settings', 'Phone', then click on 'Services'. Scroll down in the list and select 'Voicemail' then click 'Get Settings'. You will then be presented with an option to 'Clear VM message and notification icon'.

An alternative would be to use memaid or simliar which has the ability to delete "dangling notifications."

Enabling the clear notification (above) should help, but you might also get it gone by going into your voicemail from the phone, and then, instead of hanging up, press whatever DTMF key (usually *, or **, or #, or something ) to "exit" the VM, and wait for the VM system to hang up on you.

With Sprint, that's really the only sure way to get the vm flag to go away on my 6700.

Thanks schettj, that is exactly what I did. Since I didn't have any saved voice messages I had my secretary leave me one. I then retrieved it after I got the new voicemail notification. I deleted it and then pressed the star, *, key. The notification was then removed from the today screen.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

Ed
