Hack to Increase Text Message Character Limit?

Initially with Sprint, my SMS Text character limit was 160.

I noticed that for a few hours after I added an actual SMS package to my service plan (300 messages per month for $5) that my max character limit went from 160 to 320.

But it reverted to 160 characters after several hours of successfully sending the longer messages.

I asked Sprint, but they told me that 160 was the limit and had nothing to say when I told them what had happened regarding the temporarily higher limits.

Is there a reg hack to increase the Text Mesage character limit or is this strictly a service-side (Sprint-controlled) limitation?

Thanks.

You can type messages longer than 160 characters, but it will send them as two separate messages. I'm pretty sure this is the carrier norm for text message size (same limit with Verizon).

I have read about the email hack, but haven't done it. I have sent a text message > 160 characters and it sent it as two texts without problem.

No hack can change the limit. One sms message can only carry 160 chars. Like above posters stated, > 160 chars will send in multiple messages.

As a slightly off topic side note, if you are ever really pissed at someone, copy and paste a short story from the internet and send it to them. My record so far is 130+\- messages and that was to someone I wasn't mad at. Some day I will send War and Peace
