Anyone else experiencing email recv issues with Direct Push ActiveSync?

We have several users (primarily Verizon) who are experiencing situations where there 6700s quit receiving email from our Exchange Server. Most of the time a manual send/recevie command from the Activesync app on the device corrects the problem.

Is this a hardware issue, a Mobile ActiveSync issue or a Verizon issue?

yeah i just posted about this a few days ago, manual works but putting it on direct push results in no emails, and selecting any of the timed ones results in syncs with zero regularity (sp) it would just sink whenever it felt like it. argued with vzw for two days and they sent new device finally and it works on direct oush again

I'm not sure if this is a related problem or not. Here is what is happening at my company. We have a number of Treo 700wx's utilizing Exchange 2003 SP2 data push. We also have the dock's connected up to the PC's running Activesync 4.2. We've been having to reset the 700wx's multiple times per day in order to get the data push (wireless through Alltel) to work. Basically when we are running on the wireless data network we will see emails coming into outlook on the PC's but are not seeing them pushed to the Treo's. Manually firing up an activesync on the treo (while on the data network) results in the spinning syncronization icon but no actual data tranfer. Eventually it will fail. After a reset, the wireless data seem to work fine for a while but eventually will require another reset.

The strange thing is it appears to coincide with the disconnection of the treo from the USB activesync connection on the PC. At this point it may just be a coincidence that the last successful sync I have had was from right before I disconnected from the usb dock. We've only had the units for the past few days so it is hard to say that the usb connection is hosing our wireless capabilities during the disconnect phase requiring the reset.

What I am testing right now is to leave the docks connected to power for charging purposes but disconnecting the USB cables from the PC's so that the Treo's will not attempt to use the PC Activesync but will instead stay on the wireless data network for all syncing. Hopefully this will solve our immediate problem.

I'm not sure if this info will be useful to anyone else or not. Perhaps this has already been discussed as is a known issue?

As a side note I also have seen a recent post about the Activesync 4.5 Beta 2 that has recently become available. One of the enhancements on the tech sheet state
Quote:
Customers using Microsoft Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2 with devices running the Messaging and Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5.0 will benefit from the following feature enhancements included in ActiveSync 4.5: Direct Push Technology, local device wipe, and certificate powered authentication to Microsoft Exchange.
This almost indicates to me that the prior versions had issues if you were using the data push model? Am I misreading this or making an incorrect assumption?

Polycron,

I have had the same issues for some time with my 6700. Please post your fix if you find one.

Thumbs up

24 hours and no problems so far.

Basically all I did was yank the usb cable from the dock so the phones no longer will sync via local activesync. All syncing now takes place over the wireless network through Alltel. We had the problem with 4 different phones and all seem to be working fine now that we've taken Activesync out of the mix.

At some point I plan on trying the 4.5 beta 2 activesync but probably not for a while. The frustrations that the 4 people with the phones had with the wireless data push not working was very high and I want to let them mellow out with this solution for a while.

Being only 24 hours its tough to make a firm judgement on this however prior to the disabling of the local activesync the problems were occurring very frequently. So it is a really good sign.

I would be interested if anyone else has this problem (see previous post from me) and finds this potential solution works for them.

The only negative is Notes will not sync under the exchange 2003 sp2 data push method. Also, if a person wants to transfer ring tones or load software they will need to replug the USB in, do thier transfers, unplug the usb cable and do a soft-reset (or hard reset if you do not have any reset software loaded).
