I'm sure most of you are familiar with URGE, one of many music downloading services. I recently joined URGE on a trial basis to see how it worked and if it would work with my 6700. URGE is set up to permit subscribers to sync the music they download to their computers to their portable music device. Going to the "playsforsure" website, which apparently Microsoft created as a way of certifying devices that will work for certain with music download services like URGE, I did find the Treo 700w, which runs on the WM5 OS like the 6700, but I could not find the 6700 listed. In any event, since the trial was free, and experience has tought me that just because a device hasn't been certified doesn't mean it will not work with a particular service, I downloaded some URGE songs and they tried to sync them with my 6700. I kept getting errors when I tried to sync. Thus my question: Has anyone found a way to sync songs from URGE to their 6700? Perhaps there's a reg edit or a download that would make this work?? Anyone have any success with this one?
I contacted URGE technical support via e-mail and they claim that any phone/pda running WM5 should be compatible with their download service, yet the 6700 is not, it seems.
Why can't I copy music that I purchase from an online store to my device?
Insert a removable storage card, such as a Secure Digital (SD) or miniSD card, into your device and then synchronize to that location (see the previous question for synchronization instructions). Synchronizing to another storage location, such as to your device's RAM, can be problematic for certain devices.
If you plan to synchronize protected files (for example, songs obtained from an online store, such as f.y.e. Download Zone or Napster), do so while the storage card is inserted into your Pocket PC or Smartphone. Do not synchronize protected content to a storage
Vax, First, thanks VERY much for taking the time to reply. in a week after i've posted, I was very surprised that no one responded until now given the depth and breadth of experience pdaphonehome forum members seem to have.
Second, I should have mentioned in my original post, I am not exactly a novice to either file syncing in general or syncing using Windows Media. I do both on a regular basis. This problem occurs when syncing to a storage card in the 6700 at the time of sync. I am constantly syncing video and audio files without problem
For some reason, only URGE files fail to syncronize and give me a 'syncronization error' URGE customer support is the pits, so I doubt they will ever help me figure it out.
I had the same problem with Urge, although I haven't contacted customer service. It seems like somehow the transfer is interrupted and thus it just screws up the license on the 6700. Usually I can't get the song to transfer again if I don't redownload it from Urge. I recently installed a test AKU 2.2 ROM from PPCGeeks.com, and for some reason with that ROM the storage card doesn't show up in Windows Media Player, so I've given up for now.
I did read another post in the Apache forum on PPCGeeks that someone seems to have good success with Napster and transferring music. I like the Urge interface, but now I wish I would have went with Napster.
Thanks for your reply and sharing your experiences. I will give Napster a go.
URGE doesn't deserve our business anyway. While a good interface is important , great customer service is paramount. In response to my customer service inquiries I have received no response. For now I warn all 6700 users to steer clear of URGE
I too wanted to see if I could get Urge To Go to work on my PPC-6700 (w/2GB mini-sd). I could not find mention of support for the 6700 on Urge's site nor on the "Playsforsure" certification site. But, hey, it's running Windows Media Player 10 Mobile with Digital Rights Management so it should work, right? So, I signed up and started downloading a few tracks to my PC. When I tried to sync these tracks to my phone, I got the synchronization error mentioned above. Urge's customer service said they only support the Playforsure devices but, by accident, I found how to get the sync to work. First, download tracks to your PC with WMP 11. Next, Exit out of WMP 11 and then restart it. If you try to sync to the phone without exiting and restarting WMP11, the sync will fail. Once you restart, you will be able to sync any and all tracks that you downloaded to the PPC-6700. I suspect there is some connection glitch that get's messed up somewhere or maybe the Urge plug-in for WMP11 is still a little flaky, who knows? Anyhow, sign up for Urge and enjoy!
I had the problem where the storage card wouldn't show up in Windows Media Player, but WMP did recognize my PPC-6700. I formatted the SD card and tried again and the storage card showed up. I have a feeling because I had DRM music on it at a point in the past, before several hard reset's and ROM updates, that it recognized this and prevented it from showing up.

Great catch! I downloaded the songs and reset WMP and I was able to sync!
Sorry I didn't reply sooner; I don't have the time to check this forum every day or even every week.
I've been very successfully using Urge with my XV6700 since May of 2006. Works great. I always download the songs to my PC first. Thereafter, however, I do not have to exit out of WMP11 prior to syncing. It just works.
Two complaints, neither of which are Urge-related:
1. I have a 2GB miniSD card; however, with the thousands of songs I've downloaded from Urge, I wish I had more storage space to sync to! Where are the larger-capacity miniSD cards?!?
2. Often, I pause a song or a podcast. If my phone thereafter shuts itself off and I then power it up again, WMP frequently has unloaded the song from memory. Very annoying. And if the track was part of an album or playlist, that will have been unloaded, also. So I have to spend a lot of time finding the track or playlist and then positioning the pointer back to where I was in the playlist and track. I don't have this problem with tracks in the phone's internal memory--only for tracks on the miniSD card.
I transfer subscription songs to my XV-6700. I've been doing it for many months now. I have successfully transferred songs from [url=http://www.listen.com/Rhapsody To Go[/URL] and Yahoo! Music Unlimited
I was able to transfer my Yahoo Jukebox WMA files to my SDcard. Windows Media Player Mobile also successfully incorporates them into its library. But then when I go to play the songs, the player goes into "acquiring license" mode and never plays the song. How do I get it to sucessfully acquire the license?
