Question strange behavior caused by my case's magnet

I have to buy a new case for my XV6700. It is something I picked up in the mall and it looks exactly like the Seido case that has been discussed extensively on the forums, down to the stitches (I suspect it is made by the same factory).

I understand the magnet can accidentally turn on the phone. But in my case, it is a little different. If I place the phone in the case with the screen facing out, the magnet turns on the screen within a second. But it does not turn into landscape mode. It remains in portrait mode. Then, if I place the phone in the case with the screen facing inside, the phone remains off.

But the strange thing is that when I take the phone out of the case, it turns on the phone most of the time. Sometimes, it will go straight to the phone mode and dial the last number I called.

Has anyone seen such behavior before? Why my XV6700 did not get turn on to landscape but get turn on to portrait? Why does the phone get turn on when I take it out of the case and dial the last number?

From what I have read, the magnet issue is more of a nuisance and it won't damage the phone, is that correct?

Any help or insight will be very much appreciated.

If it's dialing, it sounds like either you or the case is hitting the green button...

Thanks for the reply. No. I was certain that I did not hit any button. As a matter of fact, on the XV6700, if the power is off, I can press all the buttons and nothing will get activiated (except sliding out the keyboard of course). The green phone button cannot activate my phone unless after I press the power button to turn the device on first.

Anyone else has any input on this? Thanks.

I've seen this occaionally when using my Seidio case as well. No big deal for me and it only seems to happen when I'm removing the handset to use it.

I always store it screen in inside the case as well.
