Vision Homepage And Call Tones on PPC6700

originally posted by DrWowe on PPC6700users.com, changed by me to update information that currently works

In case you like being able to check your minutes online, or view the other content there. Smile

This is a two-part hack. First, you have to setup the Sprint proxy. Second, you have to make the website think you're running on a supported phone.

1) Setup the proxy. Goto Settings->Connections->Sprint->Proxy Settings. Set the proxy address to 68.28.31.33. Click advanced. Make sure the port for HTTP is 80, and get rid of Socks.

2) Change the User-Agent. Get your favorite registry editor.
Goto: HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Internet Settings/5.0/User Agent

Backup what's there currently. (don't skip this). If you're using PHM, you can export the whole key to a file.

Get rid of everything else, and add the following String Values:
Compatible=compatible
Default=Mozilla/4.0
Desc=Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.0
Platform=Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.0
UA-Language=Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.0
Version=MSIE 6.0

Now Sprint thinks you're using a Treo 650 or 700p!

3) Goto http://vision.sprintpcs.com. If it doesn't look right, check all the settings again. You should have 10 links numbered 1,2,...,9,0. The website is very picky, if you have any typos or mistakes in the user-agent it won't work.

It would be fun to find the user-agent strings for other supported phones and post those here, in case they get other stuff we don't. Smile

Does this affect normal browsing? Will it cause you to have a slower speed when accessing different sites?

Thanks for the info!

it did not affect browsing for me however i added it in my work network instead of sprint and only connect when trying to use the vision homepage or calltones... furthermore, if you bookmark the calltones page, you can remove the settings and still access the calltones site.... and i can also verify that it did allow me to purchase. Just for testing purposes i purchased irreplacable by beyonce... the first calltone listed... and it was working within 5 minutes.

can you go string by string here? or is that already string by string on each line?

Ok.. found the calltones now. I had to go through the "'top searches" link and searched for calltones. I clicked the search results link for calltones and it took me to the sprint calltone manager.

Thanks

For me it only works in PIE. Are you trying with Opera or Netfront? When I tried with Opera I got the same error you're reporting.

Can someone confirm that this still works as of today?

I entered all setting as described but am only able to get a vision page with the vision yellow logo...There are no links present. I did not perform the most recent (3 weeks or so) rom update, but have been up to date before that.

Anyone at least able to confirm or give me some pointers?

Thanks,
Josh

I was finally able to change my Call Tones.. Great hack!.. My first reg edit!.. I had some issues w/ the default Sprint PCS Vision connection resetting in the Network Management.. So I deleted the Sprint modem entry.. & just added it back when I was finished..

Mini-bump along with a question.
I tried this with the old rom along with a flawlessly running 3.3 hack by Colonel. I have no problem editing the registry whatsoever and have checked my connections and edits over and over again. As I was last month, I can get the yellow WAP looking Vision Home along with one rotating link to an add (dead when I click it) but nothing else.

Is there anyone out there that still has this working under any conditions, rom, etc?

Please let us know as I would really love to get this working.
Thanks,
Josh

So is this the only way to get Call Tones to work on the 6700? I know I signed into my account on my desktop PC a few months ago and I was able to order a calltone but it wouldn't work. It showed purchased and active and all that on the website, but when people called it didn't work, they just heard the regular ring. So I called Sprint and they said call tones weren't compatible with my phone. They refunded the purchase price of the call tone.

Anyone know if it works now?

Kinda OT, but I'm happy to help. You should never purchase any ringers for the 6700. Just drop any wav or low bit rate mp3 into /windows/rings folder and it will show up as available. I know this thread is about the call tones, but the vision aspect of it all is the harder part.
