SMS vs. Email vs. Instant Messaging

Folks,

I'm new to the PPC whirl. I've only had my 6700 for about a month, but I love it. However, Veri$on pissed me off (what's new). They were charging me $5.00 for Mobile Web even though I have the unlimited data plan, and I had them cancel the $5.00/month text message package, too. Sooooooooo, what are my options now?

Text messaging was ocassionnally fun on my other phone, but I didn't use it very much. I did enjoy picture messaging, but that's charged differently with a PDA than with a phone through Veri$on. Charged as data AND as a picture message. What a load...

Can I send text messages via the 6700 unlimited data plan without a text plan using some other software package? GMail seems to use SMS, but I'm not sure about that or about how it's charged.

If I Hotmail, is that a text message? I saw vgsmail listed here as a good push email app. Same question for it.

If I use Hotmail or some other email app, can I embed a picture in it without it being a picture mesage?

What about instant messaging? Is that also SMS?

Thanks much,

deadhead

If you have unlimited data, you can send SMS for free by visiting http://www.google.com/sendtophone on your phone.

If you set up your gMail correctly on the phone you can add a picture as an attachment and email your pictures directly to people's email addresses or even upload them to www.flickr.com so that people can just see them on the web site.
