It's possible to install AKU 2.2 on sprint 6700

I don't know if anyone hasn't seen this yet, but there's a post at ppcgeeks that shows how to install AKU 2.2 on the sprint 6700:

Wow... heh. That's exactly how we got the updated AKU for the PPC6600. It was from good old Telecom NZ. Now what I want to know is (waffles, are you out there?) why the TNZ ROMs work fine with the NoID updater but none of the US ones do (assuming you are trying to flash a different carrier's ROM on your device).

Anyway, this is exciting for me merely to get rid of that stupid battery meter on the top bar. With AKU 2.2 that is now possible (takes a registry entry though). AKU 3.0's got the really cool stuff though

Looks like this info originally came from some folks at PPC6700users.com (just giving credit where credit's due). But thanks for posting it here, as I don't get much time these days to read other forums.

Yea I gave credit to them, cuz thats were I read it, but they just had instructions on where to find the files, then u had to extract, put together with the noID tool and run it. I simply packaged it all together for ya for a quicker, easier install.

I did it after the Sprint update. So far so good.

-Boots a little quicker (about 10 or 15 seconds)
-Speed dial button is gone from the phone app (replaced with End)
-Dynamo (task switcher) has problems. I removed Dynamo.

Since I was hard resetting anyway, I removed the Sprint battery and clock customization cabs, so I have no idea if there are any reg edits that would fix those issues. I would assume the same would be true if I only installed the Sprint update.

Is it worth it? I dunno. I just did it to see if it would work.

I have done it.... nothing bad yet, but not sure exactly what I'm looking for either. Still trying to get all my applications back up (can't figure how how/what PHM Regist CAB to install).

OK Weather Panel 2.5
OK Dynamo
OK CodeWallet Pro
OK Acrobate 1.0

Still trying to get the MMS working, but need to get a regeditor installed to complete the process.

OT - I keep a regeditor and Total Commander on my SD card - that way I can just put it in and mess with the registry and Extended_rom before I ever install any programs - sheureka

What would be the difference in this 2.2 install and replacing the nk.nbf(2.2) with an nk.nbf(3.) and flashing? Is there that big of a difference the in versions that it would corrupt the rom of my apache?

The difference is that the AKU 3 nk.nbf files were not designed for this device and will not work. nk.nbf image files are highly customized for the exact hardware of a specific device. You can't just mix and match.

mooring,

Did you just install Dynamo and it worked? I must be doing something wrong. It could be that VC 1.6 is foostering with my buttons and the problem I'm having has nothing to do with the AKU 2.2 update. VC 1.6 is the only other change I made.

Edit: VC 1.6 is causing my Dynamo problems. I guess I should have searched.

I hope one of the cdma carriers that carry our phone actually releases a aku 3.0 rom. HTML email in outlook is really a must and It would be awesome to not have to use third party email programs ever again.

Anyone notice change in battery life.

I seem to be chewing through battery fast, but I have been fiddling a little more than normal, but battery has been going down fast.

I haven't noticed anything in the battery. It appears to be the same for me.

First day of New ROM and new AKU.

* Seems slighlty faster/responsive (but I think my car runs better after an oil change too)

* 900 contacts not loaded yet

* Went trough both my standard batteries today--I don;t think that has ever happened before and this was a rather light day of use. Was in EDVO area most of the day.

* The dial-hangup-three beeps crash in 1X areas seems to have gone away.

Had to "freezes" in EDVO areas.

* not sure what improvments I'm supposed to notice; but todate, I can't find a lot that changed.

I absolutely love this thing! I upgraded the ROM and AKU, ran a SPB Backup Restore, and I was good to go in about 30 min. from the start!!!
