Button 5 (Press & Hold) not working after voicecommand 1.6 install
I had voicecommand 1.5 installed and set button 5 for Voicecommand and button 5 (press & hold) for voice speed dial. After upgrading to 1.6, button 5 stopped working entirely, no matter what I assigned to it. Button 5 (press & hold) now works like button 5 with out the press and hold functionality. I now have to assign voice command to button 5 (press & hold). It works with a quick press with the hold.
Anybody know a fix to this? Perhaps a way to reset all the assigned keys back to default?
I found the settings at hkml/software/microsoft/shell/keys/
The settings are at 40c6 and 40c7
Can somebody please post what kind of data you see in both of these settings? Thanks a million.
I have experienced the same phenomenon, it basically means I have lost one button. As far as my settings, mine look about the same as yours, although I have a default key for 40c6, which is labeled properly (for Word), but the button behavior is as you described above: Both "press" and "press and hold" of the button launch the app assigned to "press and hold". Strange.
This is DEFINITELY an issue as reported herein. I wiped my PPC over this thinking the registry was somehow corrupted, and the problem has reappeared. I believe it stems from most PPC only having four assignable buttons, as this only seems to appear when configuring MSVC for button five (pure conjecture on my part).
Here's the workaround I've used successfully for a couple days:
1. Reassign default behaviors for button five (press=notes, hold=record)
2. Assign button four hold=vc
Yeah, I gave up one-touch access to CommMgr, but at least the buttons are stable now.
I'm having the same problem. Since I don't tend to use the voice recorder, I set Voice Command to button 5 push and hold. It's like installing 1.6 limited button 5 functionality to push and hold only, but the timing is super fast on the 6700. Wonder if other WM5 HW platforms are experiencing the same thing?

We think this is due to the switching of the AT command extension handler when Voice Command is installed. Voice Command interacts with the hands free profile using the command extension handler. HTC has created their own AT command extension handler for managing the audio gateway. With HTC's handler, pressing the voice dial button will toggle the audio gateway, when the audio gateway is opened, it will also launch the program at a certain registry key. My guess is that HTC has implemented something relevant to the button 5 button in this command extension handler. When we replace HTC's with ours, the problem occurs. I'm guessing that if you were to install the JETWare extension handler with Voice Command 1.5, you would get the same result. HTC has been notified regarding Voice Command initiation, and ideally they'll add it to their own command handler. I doubt you will get an update from HTC on this though. Hopefully they'll fix it in future platforms and we wont have this interaction issue going forward.
Thanks, Xyzzy, for all your help here... can you summarize the manifestation of the problem (how it affects us non-programmer types, and what we should do with button assignments as a workaround)?
Funny, I had this problem, too. So...
1. I installed Vito Button Mapper. MSVC disappeared from the list of programs you could assign to a button.
2. I copied the MSVC .exe file to my programs directory and MSVC reappeared as an option that could be assigned to a button.
3. MSVC still couldn't be assigned to a button
4. I assigned MSVC to BOTH the single press and press-and-hold for button 5 using Vito.
5. Success!
6. Soft Reset
7. Still working!
8. I removed MSVC from the press-and-hold on button 5
9. Still working
10. Soft Reset.
11. Still working. Can still use both button 5 features, but need VITO to make it work. If I take VITO off, then the press-and-hold feature of button 5 is gone.

xyzzy - ditto on the thanks for looking in to this! What you said makes sense. I'd hope that HTC would provide some kind of fix for us, but even if they did......would verizon or the others release it?
After seeing another post you made about WM 5 v 3+ in the i730 forum relating to announcement passthrough to bluetooth, I looked at our version on the verizon 6700......we are only ar 5.1.195 build 14928.2.2.0. Too bad we can't upgrade these devices like our PCs.....I'd like to have the newer WM5.

no need to write same issue... its a known issue, the guy from microsoft addressed it in post 6... there is not gonna be a fix on it so dont install 1.6 if you want all your buttons
I assigned VC1.6 to Button 4 (press and hold) and Notes and Record (press and hold) to Button 5. This is a workaround, but other programs don't seem to work on Button 5 (Button 5's "press and hold" seems to take over its "press" assignment, too).
Assign Voice Command to Button 5 (Press & Hold).
Assign anything else (I use Word Mobile) to Button 5 (not Press & Hold).
For some reason this caused my Button 5 (not Press & Hold) to activate Voice Command.
Button 5 (Press & Hold) seems to be useless, but for me the tradeoff's worth it until they fix it for realz.
has anyone tried somehow basically fully erasing everything? is that possible? like reinstalling windows mobile?? id love to just revert back to how i got it and reinstall everything!
