Ok I have searched around but there really is no comprehensive battery rundown of which ones are holding up and which ones we should avoid.
Does anyone of the veteran members that has had enough time with this device to test and get a feel for which batteries are good and bad care to post.
I see there are several options and am at a lost to figure out which one/ones I should invest in.
I think I would like to get 2 of the largest standard size ones I can find and maybe a 3200Mah for backup purposes
I have looked around and it seems the largest capacity standard sized ones are 1500 Mah some really cheaply priced on ebay and some going for ~ 40, are there any other standard sized batts that are larger than 1500?
If I am going to go bigger than stock size I will get the largest one possible as I don’t plan to use it except for piece of mind if the thing should eat up a battery if I leave it in a incorrect mode or setting, and if my other standard sized batts are dead.
Is 3200 the largest that can be found?
Any good prices on the 3200 or even the 2400?
Should I avoid the ebay batts as it seems they may be old batteries (from reading here) the sellers are trying to liquidate?
Any advice from people that have dealt with the battery issue
I have chargers available to me in the car home, ect. But need dependable power while on foot
I've had the Seidio 3200mah for 2-3 weeks now and love it. Well over 2x the life of the stock battery. I can easily go a few days now without charging (EVO connected 24/7)
One thing I have done in lieu of buying a second battery (and I'm still considering that) is buying an APC Mobile Power unit. They had them on sale at Staples a month ago for $30 after rebate. It's a little bigger than an Ipod and I've found it can charge the phone fully between 1.5-2 times. I considered getting one of those flashlight shaped battery extenders like the new one that Energizer just came out with. The downside to those is that you either have to keep buying batteries for them or use a rechargeable battery which is just one more thing you have to remember to charge and bring with you. With this setup, I carry the APC mobile power unit and a retractable mini-USB cable that I bought at Dollar Tree for $1. When my phone gets low on power, I use the APC to recharge it or just run it off the APC (the phone thinks it's connected to a power source). Now, what's really great about this whole set up is that after the APC is discharged, I can use the same retractable USB cable to hook it up to a computer to recharge or to the AC adapter it came with or any mini-USB cable already connected to a computer. It's great being able to recharge it at a computer (or any USB outlet) since I don't have to bring the AC adapter with me -- something I couldn't do with a battery extender and rechargeable AA batteries. Here's a link to what I'm talking about:
Another positive is that when I get a new phone, I can use the APC unit with anything else that charges with a USB port (it's actually advertised for iPods, Treos, PSPs).

I second the MPU. I have bought several of these for people in my company that need to charge their phones. Works well.

Thanks for the input guys.
I actually was looking for MPUs before posting and decided this is not the wrought I would like to go
If I am still insistent on staying with the battery idea, what are my best choices as in branding or sources?
My intuition says OEM branded, but maybe people have luck with others?
Are the ebay batts “get what you pay for” or is it possible to get a decent battery from one of the sellers on there? Anyone had first hand experience with sellers batterys on there?
I bought one of the EBAY "2400" extended batteries. Based on testing, I think it's really actually 1800 mah or so. Which is very probable, since it's not labelled anywhere - and looks EXACTLY the same as the 1800 batteries other vendors sell.
Besides that, I really have no complaints with it. It gives me about twice the juice of the original battery - and it's been reliable. Just be aware that it won't give you the life that these other vendor batteries will.
For an external battery pack you can't beat the Socket mobile battery pack. I bought one a year ago after reading a recommendation from here. It works great and lasts for many days to sometimes a week. Of course I am not constantly connected to it but the charge does last quite a long time. I use it often in the house when I don't want to be tethered to a wall outlet. Or when traveling and I know I won't have a chance to recharge the batteries during the day.
I know this has been covered but to the life of me I cannot seem to find it (yes I did use the search). I was wondering what everyones opinion was for a good replacement battery. I am looking for one that will fit the OEM profile and not have to use a new cover. The reason is I don't like the extra bulk and I will have to replace my case as well. Thanks in advance.
I've been wanting more juice - specifically to use GPS for long time periods while hiking. I figured I'd be better off getting an external battery pack so I can charge MP3 players as well.
Unfortunately, I decided to get one of the 4 AA types - generic, but it looks exactly like the Boxwave adapter, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were manufactured by the same company. I figured I use 4 2600 mah AA's, and that would be the equivalent of a 10WH power supply.
Boy, was I wrong. So far, after charging for about an hour - I can only get my phone up 20%, and the charger seems near dead. I can't understand it. I'm going to play with it some more to see how it performs long term, but I'm really disappointed. At $14 after shipping, I don't think it's worth the hassle to return.
Has anyone else purchased a AA charger for the 6700 and had different results? I'm thinking of getting one of the APC Mobile Power Packs instead - I'm just hoping I can find one on sale. $60 seems to be the going rate.
Ya I got the 1500mAh cameron seno battery from ebay, have to say I don’t believe it is as good as the stock 1300mAh that has been used many times!
But…. I hadn’t seen anything saying this so I went ahead and purchased it. It makes an OK way to have a backup though. Wish someone made a much larger standard sized one though! I know it is possible if you compare the mAh of some of the batts out there they are double capacity and up and nearly the same physical dimensions.
I guess the fact that people have not shunned the larger sized counterparts has made this less of an objective for the aftermarket to live up too?
Oh well the battery pack concept seems like a very plausible backup path at this point. Any suggestions on reputable well operating merchandise?
I just got a couple extra OEMs off ebay for $8 each... swapping a battery isn't a big deal.
On work days, I have access to usb power all day (yep, work chained to a computer) and I got a car charger as well. That seems to cover all my bases. Kinda reminds me of the good old analog cell phone (Moto Star-Tac) days... carry three huge batteries, maybe make it thru the day
