A couple questions about xv6700

Hey guys,

I am a current verizon wireless customer. I am in a 2 and renew plan and at the begining of december I will be able to get a new phone. I have been looking at the 6700. My brother in law has the sprint version and I fell in love with it. I DO NOT plan on getting the data package with the phone. Ide like to only use the web when Im in a wifi area. I talked with Verizon and they basically explained to me that I will be able to use the wifi signal free of charge, but if I try and access the web via verizon when Im not in a wifi area I will be charged per kilobyte. I DO NOT want that to happen. Is there anyway to disable the phone to look for or use the verizon web signal? My bro in laws says he can disable his to look for the network. He uses cingular.

Is this possible with the verizon model? I just dont want to get the phone and use the wifi feature and see his INSANE phone bill. Is there a way to disable the use of Verizons data web?

Thanks for reading this guys. Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can use WiFi for free and disable the EV-DO connectivity on the phone. See here:

OK guys, I did what it said to do on that link. I erased the #777 and replaced it with 0. Is there anyway I can check to see if it wont work? I hit the internet explorer button on the side of the phone, and it asked me if I wasnt online yet. I tried to type in yahoo.com and it asked me for a username and password. Am I on the right track?

Should be good to go if it doesn't get past the username and password point. Do you still have the big white EV icon at the top WITHOUT arrows?

OK guys. It didnt work. I tried it tonight and my verizon account says ive used 14.97kb, which isnt a big deal but im getting charged. I had the thing set to dial out 0 which I though would work but it didnt. Then I changed it to all symbols...like...*&^% and it still connected with dialing that. Is there anything else I can to to make in not connect to verizons network? Like the password promp comes up and i just leave it blank and press ok, but it still connects.

any ideas?

Can't you call customer service and have data service turned off at the account level? I'm sure I've read about people doing this, at least I think so. The only caveat is that it might interfere with TXT and/or PIX messaging. The thread above has to be one of many about this issue - I'd keep searching. Also review the sticky at the top of this forum; your thread title violates posting guidelines as it is too open-ended.

FWIW, I think this phone is a brick if you don't have the unlimited data plan, but that's just me.

I to just use WIFI on the 67, and was aways worried about being charged.

i just changed my setting to use "com1" so when i hit the "IE" button by mistake or when programs want to use the net, when not using WIFI....it gives me an "ERROR" that it can not connect...due to the port setting.
