Please post all questions and replies to
sonny486's thread. All the info is there and I won't be replying here. This new thread was made to get this issue a bit more exposure since the speed increases are notable and we could possibly all benefit from them.

I have run some SD Card benchmark results of various PDA units running WM5. This was prompted after upgrading my SD Card to a SanDisk Ultra II, and then tested more after modifying my registry to resemble the Treo 700W. I ran all the benchmarks 3 times however decided not to average because the results did not have much variance.
I started tinkering with the SD Card registry settings after reading the thread started by sonny486
here.
I began to contribute to that thread at post
#86 and the registry settings I am using at the time of this writing (11/17/06) can be found
here.

Storage Card Card Benchmarks
Tests run on PPC-6700
(No registry modifications)
2.0GB SanDisk MiniSD
Write 111.63 KB/sec
Read 443.67 KB/sec
2.0GB SanDisk MiniSD Ultra II
Write 351.83 KB/sec

2.0GB SanDisk MiniSD Ultra II
(After modifying registry)
Write 701.61 KB/sec (Nearly 100% speed increase)
Read 657.12 KB/sec (Roughly 33% speed increase)
After getting the much improved results above I ran the benchmark on the following devices with no registry modifications to establish some reference points.
Verizon VX6700
2.0GB SanDisk MiniSD Ultra II
Write 336.92 KB/sec
Read 485.42 KB/sec
Verizon Treo 700W
2.0GB SanDisk MiniSD Ultra II
Write 564.65 KB/sec
Read 1196.03 KB/sec
Tmobile MDA
2.0GB SanDisk MiniSD Ultra II
Write 223.00 KB/sec
Read 786.89 KB/sec
The VX6700/PPC6700 clearly have inferior registry settings. After modeling my settings to reflect those of the Treo 700W I gained a 100% write speed increase and roughly a 33% read speed increase.
I was amazed by the Treo's Read speed; clearly the device has superior hardware inside of it.
I plan on further benchmarks/registry modifications to try and find the best combination. I will let you guys know what I find.
Good luck.
