Just wanted to make sure everyone on this forum had a chance to hear this fairly recent news. The only other thread I saw on the topic was too general and got moved to another forum area.
Basically, all PPC6700 users frustrations with MSVC (and especially in regards to recognition over BT headsets) have been addressed. It works 100% perfect, not one screw-up in anything I could throw at it....and its like this over Bluetooth!
This is the way it should have come from MS originally! Its a 9.99 upgrade for 1.5 version owners, easily worth it.
The 6700 now is truely a BT compatable device....just wait until you use BT dialing by numbers (as opposed to "call *contact*)the first few times...it doesn't miss a beat. No more compromise with the BT hacks and 50/50 recognition factor...this is the REAL DEAL!
Can either one of you help with this upgrade. I been emailing handango all day. I keep getting errors at the end of the upgrade that I don't live in the US or Duplicate purchase error. They told me to buy full version and they would reimburse me $30. This didn't work either.

I'm not sure this will help, but I will relate to you my experience when purchasing the upgrade online.
I had similar problems to the ones pointed out by a couple of other members in the original (moved) thread. It kept telling me I had the newest version, even though I had 1.5 (confirmed) and kept putting in my correct E-mail addy(confirmed). This was using the "click to upgrade" button, which was for "purchasers of earlier versions".
After trying for a few more minutes unsuccesfully, I tried a new approach. I tried to purchase the main product (the regular, full 1.6 version) ...this was a different purchase button than the "earlier versions" one. It then asked me for my e-mail address like before, but this time, when I entered it, it told me that I had a earlier version and they would give me a special upgrade price of 9.99.
Go figure.....
Just remeber to uninstall version 1.5 first, before executing the .exe file for the v1.6 install.
Not to mention, of course, you MUST install it to device memory (as opposed to storage card), and must do a soft reset or two afterwards before the newly installed program takes full effect.
It is a quantum leap improvement over the old hacked BT way......
what hardware button are you guys assigning to voice command? I am trying to map the notes button buy it always open notes!
any ideas?
I prefer using only the three buttons that can be set to "press and hold"...I believe they are the camera, recorder and internet explorer buttons. I prefer this (to the "just press" option) since it is unlikely I will activate these functions by accidentially pressing a button.
I use the recorder button for voice notes/recordings, the camera button for the camera, and the I.E. button I have set for VC. I find its placement is also natural for your finger when using the program.
"what hardware button are you guys assigning to voice command? I am trying to map the notes button buy it always open notes!"
I also had this issue, for some reason it looks like the press and hold got swithed with just the one touch. its not really notes your going to, its record. just put vc in the press and hold and what ever (i put record) in the one touch.
working bluetoooth that is great news fro those of you that has the bluetooth hack from before.... do you have to UN do any of the hack before you install VC 1.6 or it simply just work??? without restore the hack back to original??? thanks.. i will up grade soon.

I have used this from 1.01 forward and now have an interesting dilemma: I formatted my HD on the box I use to sync the PPC and didn't bother to reinstall MSVC. I've simply reinstalled the 1.5 cab file onto the PPC from the SD card whenever a hard reset required.
Now the 1.6 upgrade from Handango requires that I have the 1.5 on the box to install. The 1.5 upgrade requires that I have the 1.01 installed to upgrade to 1.5.
Will someone extract the 1.6 cab file from their PPC and PM me please?
Meanwhile, I'll keep looking for the 1.01 install files in the back up drives so I can complete the MS-required install chain.
Thanks,
Bob Duckworth

I've had voice command for a long time and obviously didn't purchase it from Handango since I'm not in their records. I have no intention of paying $39.99 for this... anyone have a suggestion as to how to get the upgrade pricing? I don't mind paying the $9.99 but this is silly.

The new Voice Command 1.6 comes at a serious cost. It disables the audio gateway. Before 1.6 if you tapped the button on your Bluetooth headset it redirected the audio from the phone to the headset. This is a GREAT feature when using a GPS because all of the turn by turn instructions get spoken through the Bluetooth headset instead of the little phone speaker.
VC 1.6 essentially disables the audio gateway. Tapping the button on the headset starts the Voice Command so that you can give your instructions. Granted that works and works very well. However, when the VC session ends it closes the audio gateway and all audio is then re-routed back to the phone speaker.
I would MUCH rather retain the audio gateway than use VC over Bluetooth.

Typical MS, 2 steps forward, one step back.
Too bad they can't fully integrate this software to THEIR OS platform.

Point taken, and you are correct, however it is a feature I rarely (if ever) use.
Most users would be satisfied with the flawless VC over BT, and this would, IMHO, represent the vast majority of users here.
As with many thing, you just can't please everyone....

Not so fast. Dont be too quick to bash M$ ( ). This issue is nothing new. There is an app that will allow you to toggle the function of the bt headset button from audio gateway to vc.
I totally agree with ESteel here...I actually like the way you can keep the gateway open, for GPS instructions specifically. I can actually pre-create a GPS course, then have the commands sent to my headset tucked under my motorcycle helmet. No more worrying about maps while out on a ride.
Are there any other new features, e.g. better recignition or volume control?
I've been experimenting with that option. It works to some degree, but once you use the VC over BT (VC/BT) it shuts down the audio gateway again. So you have to manually restart the audio gateway again, actually twice, because the toggle still thinks it is ON, so you have to toggle off then toggle on again.
