So are we going to be able to upgrade to Crossbow?

I know the 6700 is semi-old, but the 6800 is still a little bit off, and Crossbow (5.5) is due at the end of the 2006/begining of 2007. The rumors are that the 6800 wont be out until WM6 is ready, and I don't know of any other device that they would launch Crossbow on

Anyone know how it will work?

Even if the hardware is 100% compatible with the new software, there is VERY, VERY little chance that Sprint will spend the $$$ to issue it to us.

There will of course be persistant rumors, just like the 6600 EVDO upgrade rumors, that won't go away.

Did you get that rumor about 6800 not being ready until WM6 from Spymongoose (shadowmite.com)?

I don't consider that rumor very accurate at all.

WM6 (photon) is not due out till mid 2008. Waaay after any 6800 comes out (hell, we'll be on the 6900 by then )

WM 5.5 (Crossbow) though is spot on and we'll see that mid 2007.

Will the 6800 have Crossbow? Maybe. If it does though, we have a very long wait (6 months?). Though PCSIntel reported the 6800 is already testing, which precludes any Crossbow release since that has not been released to HTC yet. I'm thinking AKU 3.x if it's Q1 2007.

Will the 6700 get the upgrade? Technically I bet it could handle it but I highly, highly doubt the 6700 would get it.

6700 will 99% not likely to upgrade, majority of pda's dont get to upgrade the os, basically just buy a new one. the 6800 will have crossbow. doesnt have to be made public that crossbow was released to HTC. lots of things going on behind the scenes

So...then the 6800 won't be out till (earliest) April or as late as June (if not later, knowing HTC/UTS/Sprint).

Awesome

Out of curiosity, what is your source for saying the 6800 will have Crossbow since it was just released RTM within the last week or so? Doesn't this contradict some of the rumors saying a 6800 Q1?

Unless you feel the need to have the 'latest and greatest,' and beta test for several months it seems skipping WM6 and the 6800 if you already have a 6700 would make the most sense.

Sounds like an interim step and marginal sidegrade on both the phone and software.

you've seen the hardware specs on the 6800? Because last I checked there are none besides having EvDO RevA.

I think a speedier OS with HTML email and newer UI is a fine upgrade. After 18 months, there's bound to be hardware improvements over the 6700--in fact it's not very hard to improve on the hardware at all since the bar was kind of set low with the 6700.
