I'm not talking about Orb or Slinbox, but rather a program that installs a server on your computer that can stream any audio or video files and can preferrably only be accessed by you. Anyone know of such solution?
"You only need a home computer to get setup, and can use any web-enabled media player with streaming capabilities, portable or otherwise, to remotely play the media you desire."
If you've got a server laying around you can install Windows Media Services and stream it from a server...But I'm unaware of any other software besides ORB that will work on a normal workstation.

orb is nice and all, but i don't really fancy it's gui..since you have to go thru a browser to access my orb. Initially i was asking for a way to map your hard drive onto your mobile device and stream media files that way. Is that possible?

You could set up a VPN on your home network and connect from your 6700. You're talking about a lot of overhead, so I don't know how well it would work.

VPN Encryption packs in extra information into the packets that are transmitted over the Internet. Basically if you have a 1500 byte MTU size (average and maximum allowed transfer size of 1 packet) you have significantly less data that is transferred in the packet due to the encryption that is packed in. Non-encrypted data will transfer faster because there will be more data in the packet.
Standard overhead in a TCP packet is 11% of your bandwidth. VPN packets are 20% of your bandwidth.
