I am having trouble knowing that I have a text message without looking at my phone. I know I can assign a .WAV file for the notification, but I would like to somehow get it to remind me, not just beep once. Also, perhaps vibrate in addition to beep/play .WAV file.
I use phoneAlarm to do what you are looking to accomplish. There may be a free solution, but pA is awesome because of the one the fly profile switching and all the custom stuff you can do within the profiles. There is a 14 or 30 day trial available. http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html

PA is good, but be careful. I have had a few problems with it and ultimately had to drop it. 1 said problem was the disabling or reminders.
Reminders for meetings, tasks, etc. stopped working. No meeting reminders = me late to many meetings!
Aaahahhhhhh @#*@%#^%#%&@%&#%@&
For some reason, I just noticed that my reminders are not working again...so this is not a PA issue, since it is not installed. Now my phone wakes up, but no alarm comes all the way through...

I know this is a stupid question, but is the checkbox in sounds and notifications checked to notify you?

It is. I actually had to check, because I would feel stupid if that was the issue.
I just tried a hard reset followed by my "best" backup and the reminders still just wake the phone, but no sound/vibration is there and the on screen notification is missing. I might have to do a fresh install...ugh...
Thanks guys! I had a good birthday! I Went to the shooting range with some friends
Anyways, I checked out Phone Alarm, and it has a lot of features I wouldn't really use. I pretty much only want to be reminded that I have a text/sms message. Maybe a beep or vibrate repeat would be nice.
I noticed on the Sounds and Notifications that there is the option for repeating alarms...but I don't have any checked. Mayne this is what you are looking for?
I really don't like not having a reminder for SMS messages. I got a text this morning and forgot about it, I just now saw the message 7 hours later! Ugh.
Yes. There is a registry hack which will turn on that Repeat option you see in Notifications. I found this hack (probably here) and added some of the other keys at the bottom.
Watch what you do here ... making a mistake editing the registry can completely hose your phone.
Repeat Notifications for Missed Calls ... and others
enable the "Repeat" option within Sounds and Notifications for Phone: Missed Call.
Take note of the default value so that you can change it back if you want to turn REPEAT OFF.
Options
Value data: 1073741845
Decimal
Changing this registry setting enables the Repeat option as well as "Flash Light for 15 minutes". You can make changes to any of the options, as needed and the Repeat should stay enabled.
Here are some of the other keys in that same directory.
If for whatever reason these reg hacks don't work you, I found this small program called alarmPal made by pocketMax (yes, the same people who make phoneAlarm). It's not free but it's only $10... alarmPal on PocketGear.com
Phone Alarm is great, but like some other people mentioned I had trouble with it since the day I had gotten it. I posted to the PA forums sent in logs thru several revisions of the software. Eventually I couldn't deal with the lockups at scheduled profile changes and I removed it.
I'll have to look at Alarm Pal.
I wouldn't be surprised if all this software is simply making use of these registry hooks that I detailed.
Never used phoneAlarm and don't want to - too big and too much stuff I'd never use. I also tried these reg hacks from when they were posted a long time ago and I found, as did others, that when you enable the repeating that there's no way to stop it. FYI, I installed alarmPal today and it works perfectly.
