XV6600 Replacement & Data Erase Validation
PPC Friends,
Just recently was upgraded to XV6700 from the XV6600 thru VZN. Nice little phone that XV6700 is, screen could be bigger,,. ohh well, next XV6800 looks to resolve problem.
Anyways, I did a hard reset on the XV6600 - does this TRUELY mean that my data is 100% erased? What app, method shall I perform when returning this ppc back to VZN?
Please advise!

Pull the battery, wait overnight .... that should do it ... then do a normal startup just to check

I read on CNN about pocket pc's phones, cells that the data can be retrieved even after a hard reset.

No reliable way to erase it
The 6700 uses flash (like all WM5 devices, I believe) to store your stuff. The upside is that if your battery dies, you don't lose anything. The down side is that if you pull the battery overnight, you don't erase anything.
I'd be surprised if a hard reset actually wipes the flash. It just marks everything as empty and puts some default stuff pulled out of ROM in certain places. Erasing flash is destructive (it has a limited number of write cycles), so the odds of hardware intentionally wasting write cycles is pretty low.
There's really no way to erase such a thing short of total physical destruction of the flash chips. If you need to return the thing to Sprint, odds are someone else is going to end up with your data on as a refurb eventually. Did you get the insurance plan that covers 'loss' of the device?

The 6600 (which is what he needs to return if I read that right) does not use flash ... soooooo ... removing the battery will remove all data ... it just can't hold it without power ...

If you just did a hard reset ... that's probably true ... but letting the backup battery go down to nothing ... will cause it to loose all data

A zero out reset would be a lot quicker. I can't find a way to achieve this however...Anyone have some insight?
