Does the Photo ID function resize the image or keep the original?
Just got me and my wife a pair of PPC-6700's from sprint.
I am able to sync to my mac using MissingSync with no problems. I have a few photos on my computer (iPhoto) that I would like to use for some friends in the phones contacts section.
- It's easy to upload the photos to the phone and place them in the "My Photos" folder.
- From there, I can select any photo I want for any contact I want.
- After I select the persons photo, I realize I can delete the original photo from the My Photos folder and the Photo ID will still remain for that contact.
If I upload, for example, a 800x600 256kb headshot of a friend to the "My Photos" folder and choose that image as their contact photo on the phone. I will delete the original file.....My question is: Will the PPC-6700 resize (both image & file size) for the phone? Or will the Photo ID photo remain 600x800 @ 256kb?
I really prefer not to have to manually bust-down all my photos in iPhoto if the phone is going to optimize it for me anyhow.

not quiet sure, but i think when u select the picture it resizes it down quiet a bit, but the file size will remain the same because it is the same original size photo just shrunk
From what I can tell when you assign a photo to a contact it gets copied and resized to the appropriate size, attaches itself to the contact and gets stored in the contacts dbase.
I am not 100% sure, but when I hard reset my phone and resync after the reset, the pictures that I have assigned to contacts aren't on the phone, but they get synched over from Outlook (Outlook also has the picture attached to the contact).

How cool is that! I wish MS Entourage (outlook equiv. for MAC) made the photos for the contacts after it syncs. I just pray I don't have to do a hard reset anytime soon....or EVER for that matter, I have quite a bit of peple with photos in my contacts (over 100)
To be safe, I used the plugin that MissingSync installed on iPhoto to bust-down all my photos for my initial setup. But in the future, I don't want to have to go through a cumbersome conversion process, just to add a photo to a contact. It would be nice if the phone itself shrunk the filesize of the photo as it attaches it to the contact and stores it in ots own database.
Hopefully someone will be able to see if it does, or test if it does. I have no idea where the Contacts photo database is. So I can;t do it.

I think it stays the same size. The reason i think so is that a large image (i.e. 1mb) takes longer to display as a caller ID image than a smaller (25kb) pic.
