How far has the ppc6700 come in the last 8 months?
I had this phone very early on right after it was released. I gave it up and went to a bb 7250 which has performed flawlessly. However my needs have changed and I have to get into something that has more robust multimedia capabilities.
Can someone who has had the phone for over a year concisely break down any progress or updates that have made this device better.
i.e: does the speakerphone still suck?
mortsaver still the best screen locking app? (i hated the way it worked)
memory card still black the screen out occasionally?
Does the ip-830 offer anything that would make it a better choice? GSM does nothing for me.
Speakerphone still sucks... But I've dremeled the speaker hole so it makes a little difference. Also, someone actually did a speaker transplant and said the results were amazing.
There is a built in screen locking program. I like it.
I've never had the DSOD + minisd syndrome so I can't tell you.
Basically, depending on whether you had a 6700 with an updated ROM, you might be excited to try it again. Then again, regarding the speaker issue, if you're afraid of voiding warranty and getting your hands dirty with the possibility of permanantly silencing your phone, you won;'t be happy with the speaker system.
It works flawless for me now. I have had it for 12 months now. Since the old Sprint logo. The lock feature is great and the speaker does suck - but I use BT so I don't really care.

there have been a lot of improvments but i would personally say wait depending on how badly/quickly you need those features with the 6800 coming out in '07 sometime. probably 2q
Not to hijack the thread, but if I just bought my 6700 a couple of days ago, do I need to install the download for it on Sprint's website? Or would this phone already have that download? How would I tell?
Go into your Dialer and click Menu, Device Information. If your ROM Version is 2.06.00 then you don't have to update. I would think if you just got it then it has the update (unless you got it from a friend or eBay).

thanks
Yeah I had the red badge of courage edition too.
What is the lock feature? It sounds like that was added in 2006?
Usually, like a few people here, I'd be getting a new phone by now and posting in the newest phone forum. I love the 6700 and don't see needing a new phone for still quite some time. Don't get me wrong, it could use some improvements, but all in all its everything I have wanted. Never have I felt a pda phone, since the i300 (actually my first pda phone was that gray qualcom, I forget the name of it) has had me satisfied.
Speaking of the forums, man this 6700 forum is huge!! All the previous forums here I could at least keep up on a day to day basis.
I've been using the 6700 since January of this year, and I still can't fathom looking at any other phones, or PPC, or anything of the kind. I"m pretty happy with mine, despite all these lil 'setbacks' people yak about. There's no such thing as perfection, and you certainly will never obtain a perfect PPC, but in my opinion - the 6700 is as good as you can ever get out of a PPC. The only significant issue I have with it, is the wifi feature, takes awhile to connect to my wifi at home, but could be my router - oh well.
Yeah, the lock feature is a new add on with 2.06. Its a Today Plug-in that you can hide if you want, or show it. Clicking Lock locks it and clicking Unlock brings you to another screen to validate the Unlock. Just to make sure you don't hit it by accident.
But the best improvements came in the Comm Manager, phone calls don't hang nearly as much (just when I have a lotta stuff going on and a call comes in - maybe 1/month if that). Time Sync is now added, Direct Push was a big addition for me. Oh and Sprint now has PRL updates going to your phone automatically thru IOTA!

Question though on the Direct Push. I didn't pay for a "Data Plan" but I was already paying for PCS Vision, so, I just upped it $5 a month to the Power Vision Plus Pack. I understood this to be a "Pull" type of company email etc... situation. I even have my peak times for sync'ing set to manual. However, somehow, last night I started getting my work emails without my even syncing.
Is this Direct Pushing from my plan or is it that glitch where syncing just happens when it wants to?
What I'm afraid of is that my company hasn't yet authorized paying for a data plan for me, so, I don't want to get charged for anything beyond the $20 a month i'm paying for the power vision. Is it unilimited data/web access or no?

Thanks.
If you have a Vision plan (whether it's the $15 or $20 a month) it's unlimited data. Did you set up Exchange ActiveSync on your phone or did you set it up as a pop3 account to sync ever so often?

I am an alltel customer, but have had 4 6700's at this point. To be honest, there's not much difference other than some of the included software in the latest version. I can't see any difference in the processing speed, ease of use, or anything of that sort. I'm sure there are some background programs and what-not that are big differences, but I am talking about the everyday average user. It still has all the same functions, and benefits/drawbacks. Not sure if this is the type of info you are looking for, but I do from reading the thread that the discussion kinda got sidetracked...
