Hey guys, Just got te 6700 about 2 days ago, liking it so far. I'm pretty new to this but catching on quickly.
anyway, I use to know a guy who had this phone and always used a Voice Activated Calling feature but it wasnt the default one the phone comes with.
This one talked back to him, he would say "Call Dave Mobile" and the phone (in a female voice) would comfirm calling daves mobile and he would say yes and it would dial.
And also when he would get a call it would say in the female voice the number that was calling as the rings tone. like "555-555-5555 is calling"
I would like this on my phone, anyone know what im talkin about or am i just imagining things? lol
I gotta say though...I have had the 6700 for about 4-5 months now and I was getting ready to throw in the towel. I was rebooting at least two times a day.
Just the other day I removed a couple of programs (Microsoft Voice Command and SPB Time).
Right now I can't say for sure which one it was, but it's like a new phone. So far no reboots and the menus are responsive again. Just my $0.02.
I'll bet it was VoiceSignal. I've had it on a Samsung i730 and Motorola Q. Works great. I don't believe the developer sells it to end users. Only mfgs.
gah! don't use MS voice command...drove me nuts! it's crap!
I strongly suggest you update the firmware on your phone (takes 15-30 mins), after that's done...it will provide a new application on it called: Voice Speed Dial.
Wow! A truly remarkable application, and it's free! To use it, I just press the 'audio record' button once, and I speak who I want to call: "Nancy at home (my wife)", and voila ! I kid you not...the accuracy level is amazing. I'm hearing impaired with an annoying speech impediment, and it works at least 98% of the time (gets mixed up due to names sounding alike with someone else).
After that blurt of praise, the only downside to it is you have to program each contact on your phone list to recognize your voice.
Has anyone notice after doing the upgrade on the 6700's that you can no longer listen to music with your bluetooth devices. If anyone knows a fix for this let me know. When start Media Player and then hit the bluetooth button on the headset to open the connection to the 6700, it activates the New Voice Speed Dial. The music plays in the BT device unto the Voice Speed Dial turns off and then it turns off the BT connect with Media Player and starts playing through the phones speaker.
Help!!
i 2nd that...msvc works near perfectly for me, the only thing is that annoying you have an incoming call from so and so lady. It drowns out the ringtone and it's not like you can control it's volume or keep it as the exclusive ringtone, although you can turn it competely off in the settings.
That Voice Speed Dial comes standard on the Sprint PPC-6700 with 2.06 firmware. Its great when using voicetags, but I don't think it supports voice number dialing like the OEM VoiceSignal or MS voice command. If it does, I'd be interested in knowing how to activate it!

Voice Speed Dial
Pros: Works better with bluetooth headsets.
Cons: Requires you to record voice tags for every command. Limited control of phone.
MSVC:
Pros: Don't have to record voice tags. Many more commands available.
Cons: Recognition through most bluetooth headsets is not as good as Voice Speed Dial.
MSVC is much better if you have a fairly large contacts list. It's also nice to be able to hear my signal strength, battery level, and appointments without having to touch my phone. I can keep my phone in my briefcase while driving. Recognition through a BT headset is about 90% for me for everything except voice dialing - so far that's about 10%.
Granted, MSVC has its' pros due to the fact it has more features, and is 'voice ready' for anyone to use, but unless you got great speech, and the patience of a monk - great! But the greatest con I had was hearing the phone saying "...please repeat...please repeat...good bye" so many times after trying to input a voice command to do something, I damned near threw my phone across the room!
So to sum this up, if you got great speech, plenty of patience, then MSVC is your pal. However if you're a schmuck like me who has a bit of time to 'train' each contact list to recognize your list, rest assured - Voice Speed Dial is your pal for life.

Yeah I know, melodramatic queen I am.
The only 2 problems I have with MSVC is over BT and the fact that I have quite a few employees that work in my company that are foreign (mainly from India) that have odd names. There are times that it does not recognize the name or it selects a different contact.
Not sure if anyone has any insight on the next version of MSVC but I am hoping that one feature that they implement is the ability to pre-record contacts that you choose so there is no confusion. Oh and maybe even a small training program that you can go through to train the thing with your voice. That would be nice

Very good suggestion, Bryan...never thought of it that way. It would be a bonus if anyone with an accent, or vocal/hearing disability can a feature to train MSVC with their own voice, and thus the usage of any PPC would be even far more user friendly.

I have russian friends with thick accents it works fine for. Sometimes the phone understands them better then I do.
For me it's positioning of the mic. I hold it about 7-12 inches away from my mouth (dirty minds) and it works great.

saqer - you can turn that feature off. I did.
I've noticed when I used MSVC, I had to carefully position myself from the phone to speak a command, and that was a pain in the a$$. Yet using the Voice Speed Dial feature seemed flawless, I haven't really had any issues how I hold the phone, and didn't matter how far I was to the microphone - it was quite accurate.
I set nicknames for the contacts I use most. That with changing by BT headset to the 510 and I almost never have to repeat myself with MSVC. It might not understand or get one wrong 1 out of 50 or so. My old Motorola BT headset it was more like 48 out of 50. Nicknames makes it a lot easier also.

Yeah, i just set up bluetooth voice command with msvc. It's a real challenge to get it to recognize what you're saying especially if you're outside. I think, however, that over time you'll get to learn the way that the MSVC understands accent/articulation. I noticed that articulating letters any better doesn't really help much. It's just a matter of being able to pronounce the name exactly like MSVC.
You've mentioned a lot of good reasons why MSVC is a great program. I still think the Voice Dialer that comes OEM on the PPC-6700 is still the best.
The way I see it is, it's my phone... no one else will use it. If I record "my voice" it will understand it perfectly. I only record those I call often. If I want to add a voice tag, it takes 5 seconds. Sometimes, I automatically add the Voice Tag when I'm entering a new contact. I have a lot of businesses I call and a lot of people who are foreign. With my voice tag, I don't worry about my phone not understanding it.
The backup program is great! I backup my voice tags every so often so if I have to do a Hard Reset, it's saved. This will be handy when the new ROM comes out next month for the Sprint PPC-6700.
I live in a good area so I really don't need to worry about signal strength. I have an extended battery so I don't worry about battery life.
I have several applications that I launch and I can assign voice tags to that as well. It's almost perfect! Now, if they do add the voice "dial by numbers", it would be awesome!
