Is this version actually supposed to work on the 6700? I have tried this app before with no success but that may have been earlier versions.

BTW, Card Export works on the 6700 but costs $15. I will always try the free alternative first.

I've been using it since 1.53 and it works just fine on the 6700.

Confirmed, it works. It's a little quirky in that it only seems to work if I de-cradle-activate-re-cradle. Also, it installs in the "accesories" folder (took me a few minutes to find it). Another think is that it requires a reboot before it will work.. just writing this stuff for the benefit of those who may not know.

Any idea if the new version is usb 2.0 vs. 1.0? The Modaco site describes it as only 1.0.

This works great...

Not to jump myself out of my previous question....but I am running the trial of Card Export II right now...jeeze, what a ridiculously good utility. Absolutely should have been built into WM5. I don't sync over activesync since I use the vzw wireless sync option. So, for me, the only reason I cradle the 6700 is to both charge it, and transfer files to and from the SD card. This util makes both work better. It removes that wait-time when un-cradling to let activsync do its thing. File transfer is quicker, more seamless, and you can view thumbnails etc of images in explorer.

I would think that is hardware dependent.

BTW: I was using cardexport on trial as well but it looks like WM5Storage works equally well. I use the windiows synctoy utility to back up the storage card. I also use sprite backup but am loooking for a better alternative. It would be nice to have zip backups that can be opened on the desktop.

The other question I have about WM5Storage is the locking of the card. In the Modaco description, it says that when using the USB flash card setting, that you can not run programs that are on the SD card. Is this true? With Card Export, you can keep it set on the flash setting (I would almost always keep it there), and all of the standard access/functions with SD card still work. I install almost all programs to the SD card. BTW, I use synctoy as well for other stuff and just set it up to backup the card. Good idea.

I think a better alternative to both WM5 and card xport is if someone wrote an SMB server for the PPC. Then you can mount the root directory as a drive letter. THis would give access to all files in main memory as well as stroage card and probably allow local access to files on PPC. The PPC takes on an IP address of 169..x.xx so you can just type "\\169.x.x.x\root$" or something like that and map the drive like you would a Windows SMB peer/server.

basides that, I think it would also allow activesync to still work because you're just using the net connection set up by activesync.

Yeah, that would be excellent as well. can't believe they left this stuff out on th OS...dumb. To clarify a previous question, card export will not allow you to access programs on the sd card WHILE plugged in as a flash reader. still no big deal, but if WM5Storage is the same, I'd switch to that for free.

6700 to a memory stick

Will it work? I have the adapter cord. But I don't have a memory stick to test it.

EDIT: I mean a USB memory storage device.

ppc6700 AS a usb (flash) drive (not WITH one)

Is it possible? Is there software either with or available for the 6700 to make it act as an external usb drive? For my purposes it would need to be a non-proprietary driver that made it look like any other drive, so that it would work with either windows or linux without requiring a special driver.

I know this has probably been asked a great many times, but I can't seem to find anything. Feel free to just suggest a link to another thread or page.

Thanks.

The name actually has a "5" in it - WM5torage.

Works really well.
