iTalkie by TabletMedia - anyone got this working?

Hey I came across this app a few days ago. I installed it on a couple of phones. It claims it needs no setup. I have tried it and I can't get it to work. The documentation says the PPC-6700 is one of the recommended phones. THey don't have a forum on their site so I couldn't post questions there.

I was really hoping the PPC-6700 would have REV (for voice/data) but this program if it works would be the next best thing. My business customers would absolutly love this. if it worked.

Hello, the included documentation indicates the devices iTalkie was tested on. the 6700 is not one of them, yet.

Also, please note that this technology is best suited for WiFi networks, not for EVDO or other cellular networks.

Best,

The TABLETmedia Team.

According to their website (and the attached PDF) it says that it has been tested on the Audiovox 6700 and it is one of their recommended platforms. So not sure what to make of the above quote.

Plus I wasn't trying it using EVDO, I was just trying to get it to work with wifi.

The pricing listed is $29.95 one user, $39.95 two lic, and $299 for 5 users with PA gateway.

lol gatalec, you could at least tell us how to use the program, your program has zero documentation on how to use it and set it up, it just lists the features, none of which we can get working. And yes we are testing it out with wifi.

I got the trial installed, but it won't do anything...I don't have another PPC to test either. I don't know if the trial will actually allow you to do anything, will it?

Hello, once installed on the PC and the PDA the following files have information on how to use iTalkie:

- User Guide (PC)
- Release Notes (PC and PDA)
- Help file (PDA).

The User Guide also includes a section indicating test cases.

Basically:
- you need at least two PDAs and the WiFi access point
- make sure the WiFi radio of both PDAs are properly associated with the access point and have a valid IP address
- run iTalkie on both devices
- at this point you should see the presence of one device on the other device
- press TALK to start sending a page, press END to stop the page. On some devices you can use the PTT button, and the page is being sent while the button is held pressed.

If you do not see other devices on your presence list, then it is likely that you have a network issue:

a) the devices are not correctly associated with the AP or have not received a valid IP address
b) disable WLAN power management on the device (set to CAM mode)
c) the AP does not support IP multicast

We have not seen cases other than a) and in one case b) above. We have not yet come across c).

Hope this helps!

Best

I HAVE IT WORKING ON 2 6700s

I downloaded the windows installer, installed it through AS on my and my wife's 6700, and it worked instantly with no setting changes. It is only working over wifi with both PPCs connected to the same LAN. The page function works exactly as described. The call function works, but feedback from the speaker is picked up and transmitted so you can't hear the other side. Pretty cool.

iTalkie directly answers requests by business users that need to integrate the functionality of their walkie-talkies into a PDA or PDA/phone. Those environments (e.g. hospitals, stores, warehouses, etc.) have WiFi, and they do not want to connect to the internet. They also require a simple deployment and reduced maintenance.
