Plantronics Voyager 510 Noise cancelling issues

On my voyager 510 bluetooth headset with windsmart, I have an issue where it cancels out my voice. People say I cut in and out of the conversation. It is only resolved by me speaking loader, but not always. I've seen this in 3 identical headset and two different xv6700's phones. I've used two different headsets and a friend of mine has another one as well and we both get the same problem. We both have updated to the lasted Verizon Rom update and that didn't solve our problem.

I have disabled AGC in the settings to see if that helps but it didn't. Also tried different volume levels on the phone and headset but nothing helps the issue. I basically have to talk really Loud for it to work all the time.

Has anyone seen this issue or have a fix?

I use mine in the car with the windows down and do not have a problem. I also use the little wind screen while in the car as well. A friend of mine had this problem with the original 510 and he ended up exchanging it for a different one and it worked like a charm. If it is under warranty or within the return policy of where you purchased it, I would try exchanging it.

I just purchased the 510 last week and everyone I talk to can't believe I'm on a headset. They can't hear any car noise or anything. Sounds like I'm on the handset. Not sure, but I'd take it back and swap it for a new one. I'm really impressed with the 510.

We've tried 3 headsets on two different xv6700 phones.

Yeah, it's weird. Everyone else says it a great headset, which I'm sure it is. I think it may a phone or Verizon issue, not headset issue.

When there's background noise there's no problem. It's when everything is quiet around me that I have to speak loud, like at the library

If i'm walking in front a fan or a big gust of wind it's great, no one complains about any wind in the microphone.

The 510 doesn't have DSP noise canceling (that I know of I though only the 6xx units had that) so if you are getting cut off it is another issue. . Try re associating the head set, however the problem might be else where.

The 510 is a great headset non the less, I have nearly 0 problems with mine.

Has Plantronics upgraded this headset since the beginning of the year? I bought mine is Februrary and I've had CONSTANT problems with the background noise being too loud. People are always complaining that they can't hear me when there's a lot of wind or noise directly hitting the mic and that my voice is competing with the background noise.

I do think it's a nice, portable headset and I've had few other problems but I have no experience with this headset having any noise canceling at all.

Is your unit blue or black? The new black units have a built in wind guard where the blue ones did not.

I have the old 510 (blue). I just called plantronics and they are exchangeing for the new 510(black) for no charge. I just told them the headset was unuseable in the wind.

My unit has a lot of blue and grey, so I'm assuming that I have the blue one. I think I'll contact Plantronics and see if they'll make an exchange because that would be wonderful if the new one was better than this one. As bosox said, these things are unusable in the wind.

OK, now we've tried this on 3 different xv6700 phones as well as 3 different newer Gray/Black headsets and we keep having the same issue.

It seems like it's some type of noise cancelling issue. However, I was also thinking it could be a provider issue. We live in the Boston area and maybe Verizon has something on the lines. But, it works fine when not using the headset so that kind of doesn't make sense.

I'm going to call Plantronics themselves and see if they can help.

They did not ask for a receipt. I recived the new headset two days after the request they did not charge me a cent and did not ask for the old one back. Great customer service and now I have a backup headset and extra charger.

I have gone through three 510's and the service has been great. The packaging box contains the lastest configuration date. Mine is AUG06.

Included with the box you received, there should be a packing slip. On the packing slip, it clearly states all the return procedure. If I remember correctly, the packing slip also says the headset is shipped out on Net30 terms. I suppose if you don't return it within a month, they may invoice you for the full ESRP of the headset.
