Headset jack shorting out = New phone from Sprint Store!
Often we gather here to complain and gripe about Sprint/Verizon/whomever...
Just had a good experience that might help others out there.
My 6700 (Sprint) is now 10 months old (11/05). Headset jack is flaky. Wiggle/turn/move the headset or audio adapter and the sound cuts in & out. I was living with it for the past 2 months, and had enough.
I don't have "insurance" through Sprint (I have it through State Farm (search this forum for details of this nice deal)). As many of you know, if you don't buy Sprint's "insurance/in-store service", you need to "Contact 'Audiovox' to get your warranty repairs done, which means you send your phone away for a couple weeks" ...according to the rep in the Chicago Sprint store (downtown on LaSalle St).
My other option was to pay $35 and have them repair/replace if necessary. OK -- $35 and an hour of wait time; or "free" and 2 weeks without a phone? Easy decision. I told them to fix the phone.
After an hour, they said "the headset jack works fine". I said "No. it shorts out." Their reply "we won't fix it just for that. if it was totally inoperative, we would replace it."
I placed a curse on their city (sorry Chicago-ans) and flew home to Ohio, where I went to the Sprint Store in North Olmstead. (Cleveland area)
I gave them the phone, again stating my headset shorts out. An hour later I return, they say "$35, and you get a new phone."
Sweet. New Phone .. in box! With all new accessories! Very nice!
Moral of the story: Cleveland Rocks, Chicago sucks. Er, I mean, If first you don't succeed, try try again.
Now, on to convince my State Farm agent to pay the $35 repair fee...
