Arrow Review: Need more power?! Seidio 3200mAh battery!

Seidio is coming out with a 3200mAh battery next week and I managed to score one to do some testing with.

Yes, that's right, 3200mAh.

This battery is the same size as the other extended batteries out there, and my existing Seidio battery cover fits fine right over it.

For those who don't know what the extended battery looks like on a 6700, here's a pic of the phone with extended batery cover, inside of the rubberized case they released:

I go through insane amounts of power on my 6700. Depending on the day I might use it continuously for hours and hours at a time. I do a lot of my work through it, get all my email on it, etc.

Seidio came out with the 2400mAh version a while back. Followed by the competitor's 2800mAh. And now we have 3200mAh from Seidio. It is crazy!

Here are the results of some tests I did. The batteries involved were:
Seidio 3200mAh extended battery
Seidio 2400mAh extended battery
Lion Battery (Mugen) 2800mAh extended battery
'eBay' no brand 2400mAh extended battery (My testing indicates this to be 1800, not 2400)
OEM slim 1350mAh battery

First test - Streaming live audio in Media Player over EVDO signal, backlight on full. I use this test to simulate 'normal' use. If you were using it constantly during the time for listening to mp3's or just lots and lots of chatting/internet surfing with no downtime:
Seidio 3200mAh Extended Battery: 8 hours
Lion 2800mAh Extended Battery: 7 hours
Seidio 2400mAh Extended Battery: 6 hours
eBay 2400mAh (Really 1800mAh) Extended Battery: 3 hours, 30 minutes
Stock OEM Battery: 2 hours, 30 minutes

Second test - Streaming live video in Media Player over WiFi, backlight on full, system overclocked to 520mhz. This is the biggest drain I can manage, everything turned on, and the CPU overclocked. I still have to do this test on the 2400 and 2800 batteries:
Seidio 3200mAh Extended Battery: 5 hours, 30 minutes
eBay 2400mAh (Really 1800mAh) Extended Battery: 2 hours, 35 minutes
Stock OEM Battery (1300mAh): 1 hour, 50 minutes

As you can see from the times and mAh ratings, it is virtually a linear progression no matter what the test, with very few exceptions.

I am going to try to do some 'standby' time tests now that I have a backup phone I can switch out, as well as finish my second test with the other batteries. Needless to say it takes some time to do since I have to be sure I can watch it near the end of its cycle to get an accurate time measurement.

There isn't really much else to say about a battery, except that this should satisfy anyone's needs. If it doesn't, you're even crazier than I am, and that's a little scary.

Right now their website says it starts shipping next week, on 9/21. I'm sure if that changes the guys will chime in and let us know!

You can find the battery on Seidio's website here:

And for people who haven't seen the rubberized case:

the same way they packed more mAh's into the 3200 without increasing the size - why can't a company make a slim battery (OEM size) with more mAh?

i really wished they had atleast a 1800-2000mAh battery that remained the same size as the OEM battery..

they managed to pack 800mAh more into the already extended battery without increasing the size, yet they can't add 800mAh into the size of the OEM battery?

Man, OP, you just HATE that eBay battery, don't you!!!!

BTW, how did you determine it's 1800 not 2400?

I didn't say anything bad about it I just listed its times.

Pure numbers. Divide the mAh in any of the other batteries by the time you get out of them and it is consistent across the board in a time:mAh ratio. The eBay battery is perfectly consistent if you plug in 1800 for its numbers instead of 2400. Incidentally, the OEM and original non-OEM extended batteries were all 1800mAh, so my guess is they just mis-market it to compete with the other extended batteries out there.

EDIT: spelling

i prefer to charge overnight a spare slim battery and then stick it in my pocket.. then after the original dies I just use the spare one... I mean its better to have a slim battery tucked in your wallet than to hold a frickin' brick with you the whole day..

I've done it both ways, honestly. While it is nice having the slim one, if you're using the belt clip, I don't really notice the extra width all that much, and its nice having that much more power.

I'm surprised you were able to get the standard battery to go as long as you did on your second test.

Also I don't really think the extra bump in the battery is all that bad as far as appearence goes. I mean honestly the whole phone looks enormous as it is, so you might as well throw on the extended battery.

well I thought the exact same thing... let me tell you I am not of those picky people about size, weight, I don't mind pulling my stylus all the time and all.. I am simply too patient and really don't complain much... so I bought the battery and naturally I thought ehhhh what the heck its not that bad...

well upon using it more and more I started feeling it was so bulky I wasn't taking the phone from my pocket anymore for simple typing because I would get this strange feeling it was gonna take forever to type... I guess it just was really unconfortable to use it in landscape mode... and this is coming from someone who's usually very patient with things like this.... I noticed I was actually using the phone LESS with the extended...

so then I just bought a new oem battery and now it feels natural again... its actually not that big but I don't know I just can't take using this phone wit the extended.

Thanks for the info Rennyn. This battery has double the life of the EBAY cheapies, while costing 4 times as much. That actually sounds like a good value to me - and I think I'm going to have to pick one up next week.

Any idea if you guys are going to make the slim battery any bigger?

I have your 2400 now but I want to go back to the slim battery but 1500 isn’t enough for me to go back......

Please make it bigger....

Does the seido have the metal piece that supposed to improve reception, thus keep power drain rate lower?

It does not have it. While my very informal tests have shown there is an improvement in reception, it is a very very minor increase. I'm not sure it has any effect on battery life, and in an area where I get 1-2 bars I have noticed zero difference in my own battery life.

Hope the battery cover is made better than the one for their 2800mAh is. I have to tape it to keep it on!

Because I haven't had time to do them. In order to do these tests I have to basically be able to have my 6700 unavailable for the entire time, and be sure I'm able to watch it for at least the last quarter of it's battery life. I will be doing the 2nd test on the 2800 and 2400 batteries, it is just going to take me a little while.

For now though, you can see for every other battery and in the other tests, the phones all have almost the exact same mAh to time ratio. You could divide the 1800 or 3200 batteries by their minutes of use and multiply by the mAh of the 2400 or 2800 batteries to get a very good estimate.

Seidio does not produce 2800 mah battery for PPC 6700. Seidio produces 2400 mah and now 3200 mah. Both batteries come with the battery door that does not require to tape it to keep it on. it is also a scratch resisitant battery door.

We have received many inquiries if 3200 mah battery is the same size of 2400 mah battery. Yes, it is, not one mm thicker ! more power and still maintain the same size.
