Just had a run in with at 6600, sure do miss that screen size

I just had lunch with a business colleague that i had been encouraging to take the plunge and get a PDA phone.
So we're at lunch and she pulls out a nice new (not brand new) Shiny 6600.
Man, I was envious, even thought i have the 6700 and WM5. It was that screen, that beautifully large screen that made it so attractive to me.
Sure do miss that, especially with GPS.

Its funny, I am the opposite.

I am about to ebay my old 6600, and while the screen viewing outside was nice, I like the more compact, phone like workings of the 6700.

It just feels 'leaner'

Of course, if Bell ever gets the 700xw, i may say the same thing again

I actually miss the huge screen on my G1000, I don't, however, miss lugging it around.

The 6600 screen is only better than the 6700 if you have less-than-OK vision(as in eye vision not as in power vision lol).. Cuz the 6700 screen is smaller but has the SAME resolution so this means more pixels per area resulting in a much sharper and clearer picture..

If you have 20/20 vision like me there's absolutely no reason to DOWNGRADE to that 6600 screen

I'm one of those with less than 20/20 (part time reading glasses). And I've been watching ebay and thinking about buying another 6600. To me there were many other things that I liked about the 66 over the 67. Like better memory control, more button choice, and more screen area (no uneeded task bar). I guess I'm just willing to admit it was a better phone.

I have pretty good eyes, but when you're driving, and you want to tap a button on your PDA For GPS it's nice to have a screen that's a little bit larger.
If i were walking around it wouldnt be too much of a problem but it's nice to have a larger screen in the car. Also i think that the external speaker when taking telephone calls was a little bit louder on the 6600.
all in all i like the 6700, but there were a few things that were sweeter on the 6600.

If you're a Verizon user, there's almost no reason to switch from a 6600 to a 6700. If Sprint had released the EVDO update for the 6600, I would be hunting ebay right now for one to replace my 700wx.

The only reason I switched.....My 6600 screen was cracked. They sent me a 6700. I even asked at the time if there wasn't any 6600's in stock.

Since I carry my 6700 on my hip, and use its PDA function more than its phone function, I would very much be in favor of a larger form factor if it also brought with it a bigger screen (preferably VGA). I do like the slide-out keyboard of the 6700 though, so I'd want them to carry that feature over.

I just cancelled my eBay auction for my 6700. Had the 700wx for a week, just can't take the tiny screen.

Back to the 6700 for me. I just couldn't deal with 240x240.

I never had the 6600, but the 6700's large screen is essential for my heavy-calendar use (and GPS).

I would NEVER go back to a 6600. I was tired of having to re-install everything if the battery went completely dead. That was one of the things that made me rush to get the 6700.

You really didn't need to. By unlocking the ext-rom, I had something like 25meg of safestore. And if you pulled the files from the the ext-rom, you could get over 30meg (i think). That and a good back up, and you never have to worry.

Right now I'm working on getting my 6600 back. I just can't deal with the 6700 any more. The only thing it was able to do that the 6600 couldn't was VC over BT. But that only works part of the time. I ended having to take it out more often than not. That and throw in BT disconnects during a call.....I'm done with it.

Sounds like you're having problems with something other than the 6700, perhaps some programs you have installed or a bad BT headset. My VC over BT works great (using the hack here in the forums), and I've never had BT disconnect during a call.

I loved the screen size of the 6600. And if the evdo would have came out I would have seriously thought about hanging onto it. But I went with he 6700 based purely on evdo. I do love th 6700 and I guess I have been lucky that I have not had any issues like some people have reported. I did have a 700wx in my posession for a week and just couldn't come to terms with the small screen. Maybe I am crazy but I really did not see the need to switch devices. It almost would have felt like a downgrade to me. Now the 6800. Whatever it may hold, I am sure that will feel like a true upgrade without sacrificing screen size.

I concur, VC over BT works flawlessly for me and is a big reason I switched to the 6700. I do miss my 6600, but I think its just nostalgia, and I don't miss its big form factor, although the 6700 is simply too thick.

It seems I'm not the only one with the disconnecting BT.

I was seriously considering going back as well, but then I remembers the joy of that little USB plug on the 6700. Thats actually what did it for me...the wacky proprietary connector on the 6600 keeps it from being useful. The bigger screensize was a major plus imho. And I despise the new RAM management in the 6700...I always end up with zero storage space and like 15 - 20 megs of program ram. Oh well.
