SanDisk rolled out a 4GB miniSD high-capacity flash (SDHC) memory card, giving you the ability to cram a whole lot of stuff onto a little flash card that's about the size of a fingernail. But don't try to slide this baby into that cellphone that uses regular garden-variety miniSD cards, because that's not going to work. It'll fit perfectly but then nothing will happen.
These SDHC cards are based on the SDA 2.0 spec, put together by the SD Card Association (yes, there is an association just for SD cards) that will enable SD cards to shoehorn up to 32GB of data into their miniscule form factors. Because the cards are exactly the same size and shape as their predecessors, all it will take is a firmware update to accommodate them. But will we be able to use them if we flash the firmware in our existing cellphones and devices?
Expect these higher-capacity cards to become ubiquitous in 2007 as cellphone manufacturers embrace the new standard. SanDisk didn't announce prices yet. – Charlie White
Stay away from the ones on EBAY! They're 2 gig cards formatted to show 4. But if you're lucky enough to get it to work - then you'll run into a wall when you hit the 2 gig mark. The card will be unable to take more data - even if you hook it up directly to a computer.
I learned this from various reviews on this site - there's a huge thread listing values in SD cards, I'd suggest looking for that.
Since they're not even priced yet (let alone available), no one knows if they work.
It doesn't look good, unless someone releases an SDHC update. It still isn't clear if it's a software or hardware compatiblilty issue, so that update may not even be possible.
I read somewhere (not saying this is true or not), but the PPC-6700 SD slot is only capable of handling up to 2 GBs. Now, from what the article says, you can just pop the card into a reader on your desktop pc, partition the card (say 4GB) into two 2GB partitions, and it should show up as card1 and card2 (or something like that).
Anyhow, just thought i'd throw that out there, in case anyone was interested.

We will have to wait and see if these new SDHC cards work but for now ALL of the 4GB miniSD cards you see on eBay are scams. The largest working available miniSD cards a 2GB.

Well 4GB Minis don't exist yet, so I'm not sure who could have tried this. It has been proven that the ones on eBay are fakes, and even in a PC only one half of their space turns up available.

I think with Sandisk - you're paying for name recognition and not necessarily reputation. If you look at their user reviews, they have as many problems as most other brands. Specific to miniSD - I noticed that the Sandisk cards were much slower than the competition for the same price level.
When purchasing miniSD cards, I'd recommend balancing performance (speed) vs. Reputation/Reviews. Though that'll only matter when using the card in another device - I don't think the 6700 can take advantage of the higher speed cards.
Now, with documents, programs, backups, ebooks, music, and movies, I'm filling up about 1.2 terabytes of storage. A 32-gig storage card would be awesome, but I know that as soon as I get one, I'll be thinking, "When are they going to bring out a 1-terabyte card..."
Here is a discussion on another forum with loads of links to the up and coming technology for storage for cell phones:
I got message from an Ebay seller (I bought his 2GB) that he would be selling 4GB next week...
I remember I bought 1GB xD only to find out that my digital camera can't use 1GB or more so I wanted to ask you guys before I started considering buying the 3 or 4GB...
there are reports that updating the card reader for the 6700, formatting the SDHC minisd fat32 and/or creating two 2 gig partitions on it will allow you to use it. These are only speculations, so don't buy until someone has reported they're successful in doing that.
*Now Available* 4GB MiniSD Will it work for the 6700?
So I'm looking for a new MiniSD to replace the one I lost with my lost phone, and I notice on eBay that they now have a 4GB mini SD--COOL! However, on the other hand why should I throw away good money if the little guy won't work on my phone. I looked at a few other forums, but could get no conclusive answer.
Anybody know if the new 4GB mini will work in the 6700? Perhaps you need to upgrade phone's software or give it a tweak to make it work? My resistance is futile--I want that mini.
