Anyone know if the PPC-6700 can support this 4GB MSD card? I'm both curious and tempted to buy it, but wanted to see if any of you have had much like with these bigger cards?
Thanks!
No it wont, it is a SDHC format and is not supported by the XV6700.
Like ChrisFix stated, the Transend "SDHC" 4GB miniSD cards will not work with the 6700 at this time.
That said, I have been testing a couple generic 4GB non-SDHC cards (formatted to FAT32) with limited success for the last month or so... To clarify, the cards work for the most part, but they have corrupted SKtools (installed to the card), and have caused some lockup issues on power up. Anyway, if I remove the 4GB, and stick a 2GB card in with the exact same programs etc... (just less audio video files), the problems go away completely.
On that note, if you're not going to run many programs off card, the 4GB non-SDHC cards appear to work alright with Pocket Player and audio files, as well as iGuidance and it's maps installed to the cards. Nonetheless, I still do not trust these larger cards with the current 6700 card driver and FAT file structure. Further, I've found that these 4GB cards have problems correctly transferring specific programs like Pocket Player, when backing up to a PC with USB2.0 card readers. And again, there are no problems with the 2GB cards formatted to FAT.
Please note that your mileage may vary...
BTW, there's already a thread here in regard to 4GB cards. So I'm guessing this thread will be merged with it soon. Just in case you're looking for it later..
Bought mine from www.flashmemorystore.com and I've been using it daily for over a month now with no problems. Running lots of programs and listening to podcasts stored on it with no noticeable lag or other problems. YMMV, but I'm very happy with mine.
The only issue I've had with my 4GB miniSD is that after 2GB full installs to it fail. However music, file uploads/access is fine. only 32mb free and it's working well.
If anyone has seen similar install behavior I'd like a confirmation.
I have not seen that, but haven't really tested <> 2GB installs. I have seen "uninstalls" fail quite regularly on programs that are installed on the 4 GB card. All I have to do is go into /windows/start menu/programs and delete the icon for the program...as well as the directory it was installed on. I can then successfully install the updated program.
Slightly off topic: Is there a way in WMP10 to maintain a 4-gb music library on a desktop PC and keep it synced to two 2gb miniSD cards? I.e. somehow have the desktop "know" what selections are supposed to be on each card and not try to put the entire library on one card?

Same here. I haven't tried it with less than 2gb tho. I just install to my 2gb then copy over to the 4gb.

You can generally do better at meritline.com or newegg.com. Usually cheaper and you get to avoid the pleasure of dealing with TD
I've been running one of the 4gb cards from grassroots for a couple of weeks now. Had issues running programs off of it. Now have it full of music and have gone for 7 days with no probs. I did reformat it to FAT with 2048 sectors. Just fyi.

Be careful of FlashmemoryStore.Com's flaky return policy. My 4Gb mini SDHC card arrived late, in an unsealed package, enabling them to automatically snag me for a $20 "restocking" fee when I returned the merchandise. This despite the "full money back" guarantee posted at their website.
At first, I thought the SDHC card worked fine simply because it showed up as installed and didn't crash the VX6700. Then the lock-ups started. UTC informed me that the device "was not designed for more than 2Gb of memory."
Flashmemorystore knows that the SDHC mini-SD is not intended for non "SDHC ready" devices.. but they can charge a restocking fee and profit regardless of whether the unit is returned or not.
Well, I just had my next complete crash..when using slingplayer - or after playing an HDTV XVID file in TCMP... It was completely corrupted this time so I had to reformat it. I am about ready to throw in the towl...I reloaded everything....I am now keeping a copy of the files on my MiniSd 4Gb on my Laptop for easy reloading.
I now only have these programs installed on the card:
Live Search
TCMP
Skype
Inav 3.0
Virtual Wallet (-I know old school)
I have moved Hubdog 2.0 (even in streaming only mode it corrupted 3x (needing a reinstall)before the complete corruption today) and Slingplayer to main Memory....mark those down as a no no on a 4GB card.
Let's see how long it goes this time.
BTW it took about 50 minutes to rewrite 2.75 GBs to the card with an external card reader.
like I said from day 1, these cards fail once u put them under headvy use, my 2gb card never once "crashed" or lost its partition once, with the 4gigs its a routine occurence. So backup your data consistently if you want peace of mind and want the luxury of 4gb
PS: this problem has nothing to do with what programs you are running of the card. I tried it with mp3s only and it "crashed" a few days later requiring a full format yet again. So the whole "this program crashed the card" argument is really not valid, you just happened to be using that program when the card decided to pack up
Hmmmm...thanks for the data point...I have also been looking at memory card posts and it seems there are quite a few 2 GB ones that also have the same issues of loosing everything.
I was just burned on ebay on a 2gig that just stop working about a couple days ago. I read alot of pos in this thread about pc2buy. I just bight the bullet and bought a 4gb from him, I hope I don't get burned w/ this also. I will post back to let you guys know how this goes.
I got one of the generic ones as well. It was indeed 4gb and was formatted already with fat32. I used to load up my avi's. 6 days now watching a couple of movies a day and no issues. No problems with powerup or sleep mode with the card inserted. Let's hope it stays that way.
