XV6700 and 4gb mini sd, anyone?

Verizon just sent me an XV6700 to replace my dead XV6600. So its time to buy a new memory card. So is it possible to use a 4gb mini in the 6700? If not the 2gb mini's do work right? I can get a 2gb for around $40 on fleabay. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't mess around with eBay on SD cards. Over half of them are phony. You can get a 2GB for under $50 from a legitimate dealer (NewEgg has the Kingston for $35 and the Transcend for $25) so why mess around with eBay? - sheureka

Just bought a 4GBTranscend mini sd from NewEgg

Hey guys, I just purchased a transcend 4GB mini hcsd card from NewEgg for my xv6700. I got it in the mail today and unfortunatley when I put the card in the phone, it seems to lock it up. As soon as I remove the card all is good again. I only paid 60 bucks for it and I figured that if it didnt work I could always send it back. Does anyone have any input on this matter? I read of updates that could make it work, but nothing concrete.

TIA

Justin

You're going to have to return it. The 6700 isn't SDHC compatible.

My understanding is that 2gb is the largest that windows mobile supports. I have heard that it might be possible to format the larger sd to 2gb partitions.. but I dunno if it is true or not.. maybe search xda to see.

It still isn't clear if there will be SDHC driver updates for pcs. Much less whether or not it's even possible to update Pocket PC devices. The SDHC website implies that there is a hardware incompatibility.

PQI cards suck!

PQI mini SD cards don't work correctly with the XV6700.

I know this comment above is referring specifically about the 6700's here, but for the-heck-of-it I wanted to clarify that I use a 4gb regular SD card in my old iPaq 3955 with WM2003 without issues.

Supposedly someone with a 6700 has a 4 gig mini SD card to work. He didn't partition it and he supposedly has loaded more than 2 gigs of stuff on the card so it isn't a fake, 2 gig made to look like a 4 gig.

Hey I just wanted to let everyone know that I bought a 4GB mini-SD card from ebay seller pc2buy. Total cost was $69.99 with free shipping and a free USB converter. You can check the ebay site here. When I put the mini-sd in my 6700 it did not work. I took the mini-sd, put it in the sd converter, put it in the USB converter and put it in my computer. XP found it and I reformatted the card to 4gb using FAT32. I put the card back in the phone and it worked. I have put over 3 gb on the card (see photo) and so far no problems. The only thing that I noticed so far is that it is a little slower than my 2GB sandisk. I hope this helps!

So far I've copied all of my files over to the 4 GB card. I've tried to play MP3's, play a movie (Shrunk using Pocket DVD Studio) and looked at pictures. All seem to work without a problem. I will keep everyone posted if I have problems!

Whorley - What ROM version are you running presently? Have you applied the latest Sprint update that was released last month, and if so, did you allow the extrom to install completely (and if you don't know, just say yes ).

There was a new sd card driver in the extrom of the latest Sprint ROM, which is why I ask. I had thought that it was meant to help solve the DSOD issue (which it has not) but it's possible (although I have zero proof of this) that instead it adds SDHC support.

I assume that the card that worked is not labeled as SDHC. It looks like these "non-compliant" (as the sd card assn. calls them) are the ones that will work. Can we get some confirmation on that from you guys that got them to work.

Sorry the card didn't have any information on it. No brand name, nor whether it is SDHC. It looks just like the one from ebay, just says MiniSD 4GB.

Also wanted to let everyone know that I used the heck out of it today. I could barely notice the difference in speed, the only thing that takes a while is when I check the storage card space under memory. All of my movie files and songs seem to play with no noticable delays.
