Help-click selects and doesn't open--

Hi,

I tried searching a bit but I'm not even sure what to search for. I just got a verizon 6700 and every once in a while (every few days, sometimes several times in a day) when I'm in an application (messaging, calendar, contacts, etc) and I click on a link (message, appointment, etc) instead of opening up the link, it selects the link instead. If I click on another link it will select both the one I just clicked on and the one I clicked on just before (they will both be highlighted).

I do a soft reset and the problem goes away...clicking on the link openes it instead of selecting it.

(BTW--when I say link, I mean whatever it is I need to click on in an application, such as clicking on a message in the messaging app, or clicking on an appointment in the calendar app).

It's very frustrating. Does anybody know what's going on? I'm wondering if I have something locked on the keyboard and forgot to unlock it or something.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have the same problem, also on a new XV6700 from Verizon. About once a day I can no longer reliably select items (whether it be a file, a contact, etc.). I end up with several items selected that I can't deselect so I have just one item selected or it will behave as if I tapped and held the stylus on the item. I soft boot and the problem goes away for a while.

I've submitted a support request to UT Starcom with a reference to this thread. I'll post their reply.

Here is their response:

Dear:Customer

If you feel it's a problem with the phone then send the phone in for evaluation or repair to our center

Not especially helpful other than it sounds like whatever the problem is, it isn't common. I'm not planning on sending my phone in. I'm wondering if I'm accidentially pressing some of the front keys when I place it and remove it from my belt holster. I always leave the keys unlocked so that I can use the buttons on my bluetooth headset. Also, I was able to recover the other day by pressing, I believe, the joystick button. I had done a couple of things but I think this is what fixed it.
