So I unlocked my phone and dejunkified it and noticed a file called Sprint_Logo.bmp which looks exactly like the screen that boots. There was some talk about making a custom startup screen HERE but it didn't really get explained. From how it sounds, it seemed like jdborges187 was able to do it.
What I am looking to do is:
1. Make a custom startup screen to replace the one that looks like Sprint_Logo.bmp and prevent all the red numbers from appearing over the image during boot.
2. Make a custom startup screen to replace the screen that comes after that, the windows mobile screen or whatever it says.
Are either of these possible? And if so, could I get a step by step? I tried replacing the Sprint_Logo.bmp with my own, same dimensions, bmp, 24bit, yet the phone still boots with the default one (I even took the orig, scribbled on it a little and put it back but still nothing.) I checked to make sure the one I put on there wasn't overwritten by the original some how and it wasn't. I don't know where it is getting the original file from to boot with as I replaced it. Is there another location I am missing?
On a different note, while dejunkifying I noticed the cabs to keep list included a file called \Extended_ROM\Version.sa.CAB. This file was never on my virgin phone nor was it in my virgin text. What is this file and why didn't I have one? What does it do? Do I need it?
Yes, it is the file welcomehead.96.png replace it with a png file the right size.
It worked fine on my device.
I use one from Xcskins wa2 Windows Vista Portable Edition theme.
WARNING: This involves replacing a system file. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! It only works on WM5 devices and has been tested, but it may differ per device.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Ok you half helped me out! I replaced the windows load up screen, now all we need to do is figure out how to replace the sprint startup screen. Halfway there!
I have tried and tried to replace the "welcomehead96.png" file, and have not been able to at all. I tried various 3rd party file editors, trying to force a replace, delete, etc. I even followed a detailed procedure outlined over at xdausers, all to no avail. I tried renaming, replacing, rebooting, everything, etc. Nothing let me replace the .png file.
I'm dying to know. How, exactly, i4edge, did you replace that file? Even the geniuses at xdausers said it wasn't possible on the 6700...

Very odd, I used pocket controller professional, it asked me if I wanted to overwrite a rom file, I said yes and that was all she wrote. I did a soft reset and my image was there!! Now all we need to do is find out how the hell to get rid of that sprint logo!!!
Geez I didn't realize it was that difficult! SOrry I didn't see the post above about that. I've replaced mine several times. I put my company logo on it. All my friends with PPC-6700 ask me how did you do that - ha ha.
I'll do it on another one. I had it both on the old rom and the new rom so that didn't make a difference. I'll let you know if I did anything different.

has anyone figured out how to replace/remove that startup sprint logo?
I don't think there is a way. It's tucked inside the internal ROM somewhere we can't find. Changing the sprint_logo in the extended rom isn't enough (probably because this file isn't used as the initial screen, but rather, a screen shown while the device recovers from a hard reset).
OK, I tried Total Commander and it would not let me overright the file, rename the file, change the atributes on the file, or it appears, anything else!
