6700 not picking up the local EVDO signal??

hey guys I have a problem with my phone not receiving EVDO, maybe its a setting I used im gonna try to back everything up, upgrade the firmware to the latest one and then do another hard reset but before I wanted to ask you guys this in case all else fails:

Why is my girlfriend's E815 phone getting steady EV red icon service, full bars and yet I go under my phone's option to EVDO only but its like a lil tower symbol going ... as if it can't find one, it was able to pick it up 2 weeks ago then it stopped working I figured it was a test since i was roaming at the time but now shes not roaming and mines doesn't pick it up at all. SOMEONE HELP!

Update:
Okay I updated the alltel firmware to 711 from 701 and the EVDO still was not working, i would get a lil tower icon but the ... after it, trying to find a signal. I tried the ##778 and setting it to HDR only, or automatic and no luck there. I tried reading the whole EVDO ring through thing see if that would somehow give me a hint to my problem with no luck.

Finally after all that reading about PRI im like wtf why don't i just do a *228 for the heck of it, 'updated' the PRL still 36101 (the only one there is), set the operation mode to EVDO only (not through ##778 but through the phone settings), rebooted and now its working

So if anyone gets a problem where they don't get an EVDO signal at all this thread might help you out

Quick Update #2: My phone was stuck on solid roaming after set to EVDO only, set it to Hybrid and now its off of roaming but still using EVDO so all good now.

Last update i swear to god: lol i wish i would have done a search because aparently it is a known problem to alltel users as shown in this thread:
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6...tel#post559789
so it is in fact a *228 that would fix all ur problems, i wish i hadn't hard reset my phone now, oh well i got the new firmware so it was worth it (maybe).
