screen turns on when switching to/from roaming, how do I prevent this??

Evey time the phone switches to roaming or back to sprint, it turns back on again if it's suspended. Since I keep it in my pocket, it's really annoying when this happens. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know how to keep it from happening?
I recently did a hard reset so I doubt it's any software I've installed.

aatreya,

This is normal with all the ppc-6700 phones. You can get a freeware called mortsaver which is one of the ways to stop this. just search the forums for mortsaver and good luck.

Aww that sucks... so there's no way to actually prevent it from turning on in the first place? I guess mortsaver would just work to turn it off again.

If i understand you correctly. Are you saying when you go outside of the Sprint service area and the phone goes to roam that it lights up. The phone is already on but then lights up. If that is what you are asking then, yes you must use mortsaver. Some people have claimed the delta lock that comes with the phone works but for me when I went to roaming the delta lock did not work.

Do NOT use Morstaver as it'll cause a huge battery drain. It uses 20% cpu even in standby/10% battery an hour.

Your best bet is to have the device auto-shut off after 1 minute and the LCD to turn off in 30 seconds, also using the built in DeviceLock will help.

Well - what I meant was that if the device is suspended, and then the phone switches from sprint to roaming or from roaming to sprint (while it's suspended), then phone will turn on and come out of suspend mode, making all the buttons vulnerable to accidental presses.

If there's a way to keep the phone from turning on in the first place, that'd be nice because then it wouldn't be necessary to deactivate mortsaver every time you actually want to use the device...

malatesta has much more experience than I. So I would listen to him/her. I just found that when its in your pocket as he/she said, even with the 30 second turn off you can dial or hit keys while it's in your pocket. I have never experienced the 10% loss in standby. However I know most people have reported this. I live 10 minutes from the mountains and skiing. Last year every time went to go skiing as soon as I hit the mountains my phone goes to roaming. The delta lock that came with the phone never worked correctly. The phone would still turn on when entering the roam zone. Mortsaver is the only thing I have found to work when I am skiing. This may not be the best answer for you however. Hope this info helps and correct me if any of this seems incorrect.

I suppose another solution would be to have the device automatically turn off after coming out of suspend mode unless the power button was pushed by the user. I'm not sure if there's a way to tell what caused it to turn on, though...

Well, I should have mentioned the caveat to Morstaver: the battery drain occurs if you have an active (live) data connection and MortSaver is activated. In that case, it doesn't "turn off" the phone but disables the screen, hence the battery drain.

So, in theory if you don't use Push email or have a live internet connnection, MSaver should be okay.

The built in device lock does not prevent the phone from turning on but keeps you from accidently hitting any buttons/dialing out again. So you can have the device lock enabled, auto-off in < 1 minute and what would happen is your devie might turn on when leaving roaming, but it'll auto-shut off within a minute and no dial outs.

Besides disabling roaming I'm afraid that's the best that can be done right now.

great caveat.....

That is why I have not experienced the battery drain. I do not use push e-mail and nobody uses the internet when in roam because it's not possible. I have loved mortsaver. That's just me. It works for what is was intended for.
