anyone know of a site that hosts .gif animated radar files??

I know that the you can update the radar images with the WeatherPanel application automatically approximately every hour or manually every however long you choose and then click the play button to animate the images and watch an animated doplar radar.

You can also choose the URL of the radar images to download. I was wondering if anybody knew of a site that might host '.GIF' picture files that have animated radar for the last 30-60 minutes or however long they are. Most sites just have a slideshow of multiple images. It would be much simpler to just download 1 animated GIF file every few hours instead of manually updating the radar images every 15-30 minutes to see an up to date radar when bad storms are rolling in.

Thumbs up

Thanks!! They both work although the accuweather one goes to a blank screen at the end of the loop and stays there until you manually restart it. The National Weather Service .GIF loops nicely and infact I notice there were two different versions of the map if you change the url from N0R to NCR. One shows more of a storm although Im not sure what they really represent yet.

I think one of the best radar images is at http://www.wunderground.com, however; I can't seem to rip the image url out of the source code. I think it uses some cgi-bin stuff.

Thanks a lot for these links. It sure beats the hell out of opening the explorer browser and waiting for the page to load and then using scroll bars to find the image. With the WeatherPanel app I can instantly pull open the image and then zoom in or out, play the loop, or switch frames manually by tapping the buttons that come with the app.

I use both sat and radar images from accuweather with WeatherPanel. I have it set so each of my images updates every 30 minutes (4 cities, 2 images each) with the images purged after 12 hours. I've been using WeatherPanel for about 3 years, and am still amazed at how cool it is. - sheureka

I cant seem to get the accuweather images to play through the loop properly. Everytime I hit the play button it plays the loop and then the screen goes blue and the time in the bottom left corner changes to a different time and then every couple seconds flashes another weird time.

For example, I just updated this map at 1:08PM. I hit the play button and it starts playing the animation. Then the screen goes blue and the time changes to 10:09PM and every 5 seconds the time changes to 2:04AM for a split second and then back to 10:09PM. It seems like the loop is all messed up for some reason. Maybe an old image isnt getting purged or the images Im getting are corrupt.

I just changed the purge time to 1 hour for this fileand it said all files were deleted so that I had to update to get anything but this is whats happening on my end for the map of Milwaukee, WI.

Anyways, Im not sure whats up with all this. - Bugsy Siegals
