Please help me connect my 6700 to my home network via wifi

Hi guys.
I was hoping someone has more experience with this. I am using a motorola wg850 router. it is set to compatibility mode (b & g). Shared wep key (index #2). SSID is visible. I can connect my laptop no problem, but my 6700 cannot connect. When I select the "connect" option it tries then goes back to "available". I setup the settings in the ppc for connection to "internet". Shared wep/ entered the correct key/ set key index to 2/ no certificate required/ connect/ that should be it right?

Also, I do not have mac filters enabled and I have reset the router multiple times.

I'm at a loss.

any ideas on where to look for the missing setting I may be overlooking?

Thanks guys!

try disabling WEP on the router, that should help narrow down the problem

I'm not sure that Motorola makes a WG850, but if you have a Motorola WR850G then you can upgrade the firmware to dd-wrt(for free) and have a much more stable router with a very advanced feature set and it acutally might solve your problems.

I am using a Linksys WRT54G with OpenWRT WhiteRussian RC5 and my Sprint PPC-6700 connects just fine with WPA(PSK) TKIP encryption. I downgraded my settings to WEP to test it out for you and I connected just fine also. The only type of encryption that I couldn't connect to with the PPC-6700 is WPA2 TKIP or AES.

I've been dealing with the same thing since I installed the new ROM.
I'm on my third WiFi manager and while I don't like it much and it's not very consistent, it's the best of the bunch so far.
The Socket WiFi companion is what's working now.
HitchHiker worked for about a day. Then I tried WiFiFoFum; not really what I needed. And now this.
It's been working about half the time today. I usually end up having to soft reset, and then the connection always seems exceptionally slow, even though it says that everything is working well.

See which one works for you.
Good luck.

I hope some one can step up and help some of us work through WiFi networking issues. I started a thread here:
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6...r-working.html)
that discussed how I could connect to my home network just fine, but not share my networks dialup modem connection as my laptops do.

Thank you so much for you effort. I have upgraded the firmware (wr850g) and no luck. I cannot use psk since my media streamer cannot decrypt or connect with this type of encryption. I have standard wep with a twn digit code that works fine for my laptop. I am so reaching for straws right now.

sandiegodude,

Just a shot in the dark, but have you tried to set up and use a shorter WEP key? With that, how long is your key again? Maybe try a key that's under 15 digits. Also, have you tried to just run wide open (no encryption) to see if you can just connect?

Best of luck,
R

I'm about to try the naked router routine to see if it is, in fact, wep that is blocking my 6700 from connecting. I'll post my results.

Unhappy PPC-6700 Wireless Connection??? Please Help

Hello Everyone!!!

I need some help connecting my PPC-6700 to my Wireless Home Network.
I have a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router with a Wireless-G PCI Adapter Card on my PC. I also have a Toshiba A75 Satellite Laptop Connecting on this network. I have disconnected my Router and turned everything off and rebooted all my systems (including the ppc-6700 device).
The 6700 see's my network and tries to connect but it just jumps back from connecting to avilable and it just keeps doing this. I have put in the network key and it is 64bit open wep but it still does not connect? If you have had any similar problems to this situation please help!!!!!

On the 6700 i have it connecting to the internet, the network key is assigned and the key index is at 1.
i do not have the IEEE 802.1X NETWORKACCES CONTROL CHECKED.

If you can help please do so, it would greatly be apprecated.
Thank you
Unhappy

If you are positive that you are using the correct WEP encryption (64 Bit and you are entering the correct password), try changing from Open to Shared on the 6700. Also, you will need the HEX version of the password, not the shortcut Passphrase (english language password)- so check that as well.
