Angry Cant receive calls while on internet....thought i fixed this...

Well it seems to be one thing after another with this phone, i never had this much trouble with my 8125... I did the ROM update when i first got the phone a few days ago. I then couldnt receive calls while in evdo like all the other people that have posted here about that problem. I did the ##RTN# reset entered my msl, mdn, and msid like i was supposed to and now my evdo connection would be interrupted when a phone call came in like it was supposed to. Now today im sitting at work and while my 1x is connected(white arrows) it goes right to voicemail when you call my phone . I tried re initiating iota with no success. Im getting really fed up with this phone and am tempted to stay with cingular. Any help would be appreciated

1x is not EVDO and will never get interrupted by a call.
When you're in an EVDO coverage area you'll see the little ev icon at the top not the 1x, that's when a call would disconnect the internet and ring the phone.

I understand the difference between evdo and 1x but i assumed that if evdo will disconnect when a call comes in that the standard 1x would disconnect also. So there is no way to make 1x disconnect when a call comes in? This just doesnt really seem to make sense. I may be browsing the internet to waste time but taking a call is much more important and i wish it would ring through. Is there anyway around this at all?

Is there possibly a hack for this?

As I understand it this isn't something you can fix on the phone. It has to do with the signal coming from the tower...but that's just in my limited understanding. Perhaps someone else can explain it better.

One thing you can try is to set the phone to EVDO only and see if you get any signal in the office...I've seen my phone go to 1X in a low signal area but if I set it to EVDO only I'll get a signal just weaker.

If you set it to evdo only you won't be able to get any 1x. Meaning no incoming calls. It doesn't exactly solve your problem.

What I was saying that for mine at least if I set it to EVDO only it does get an EVDO signal instead of 1X in my office.
Of course your mileage may vary.

The issue here is this:

1x is for both data and calls: if your using one there is no way to use the other--it'd be like talking and swallowing at the same time! This is the same for every CDMA phone in the US.

EvDO is only for data: If your using data, you have an extra "line" open (1x) for your incoming calls. The phone monitors 1x Towers for an incomig call like normal and when a call comes in it pauses EvDo and gives preference to 1x.

Hence it's better to have 2 radios in the phone (1x and evdo) than just one.

Ah...I see.
Sorry if I cause any confusion I was thinking of the problem I was having right after the ROM upgrade with the Digital Roaming.
I've been monitoring this board since December and this is why I post little and watch a lot.

malatesta thanks for the great explanation.
