what do I enter for the incoming/outgoing fields in setting up email account on 6700?
I go to NC State and I wanted to set up my outlook on my phone w/ my school e-mail. Is this even possible? When I went to messaging > options > e-mail setup I got to the Server Information & I don't know what to put in the "incoming mail", "outgoing mail", and the "domain" fields. Can anyone help me out?
you need to look at someone else setup at your school and see what they use for that. Go into their OUTLOOK setup and see. Likely the same values would be used. Frequently the domain is left blank. Examples for verizon would be "incoming.verizon.net" and "outgoing.verizon.net". Each service uses its' own names, but frequently they have similar formats

Its really going to depend upon how the IT folks have set up email on campus. it may be POP and SMTP servers, but more likely is IMAP or something else. A visit to campus computing center should provide the answers. They should actually be interested enough to help you set the device up as typically they are geeks too and love new toys.
Good Luck,

ok, I found the incoming on our website but the outgoing it said...
Type in the information Outlook XP asks for. This includes your name, email address, your Unity logon ID and password, and the incoming and outgoing mail servers. Your incoming mail server will be [unityid].mail.ncsu.edu. Your outgoing mail server depends on where the computer you are setting up is physically located:
ResNet-connected computers in NC State residence halls or on-campus chapter houses: use smtp-resnet.ncsu.edu
Computers in other on-campus buildings: use smtp.ncsu.edu
Computers in University Towers: use relay-mail.paetec.net
Computers located off-campus: use your ISPs outgoing mail server
Thats the link for outgoing mail servers. I used MSN b/c I didn't know which one to use for the phone. Is there one for sprint or something, any suggestions?
Ok it worked w/ the MSN "outgoing mail" but if theres a different/better outgoing mail server I should use on my phone let me know. Also, is there a way to get notifications when I recieve a new e-mail from that account? B/c I sent myself a test e-mail and nothing happened, I had to click on Menu > "Send/Recieve" for the folder to update.
Based on the information you provided above, your College does not allow incoming SMTP conections external to the firewall. They most likely did this as a security measure to protect against various attacks and mail relay.
Basically they are allowing you to retrieve mail (POP) if you are external to the firewall, but if you want to send mail, you need to use another SMTP service besides theirs, and one that allows SMTP relay, so the message you are sending through the server looks as if it is coming from your College email address. Personally I use my Comcast email server to do this.
Example:
For POP my setting is: pop.mydomainname.com
For SMTP my setting is: smtp.comcast.net
Also the free MSN accounts do not allow mail relay, so you may not ever see the test message you sent.

yea I can recieve the e-mails but when I try to send one it comes back saving "invalid e-mail address" or something. So idk what to do, my schools technican said that I should use the stmp setting from the internet that I use @ home, but thats road runner and I don't know the SMTP setting for road runner or Time Warner Cable

Assuming your in the Raleigh area, the SMTP server address for Time Warner is smtp-server.nc.rr.com. Your login & password is something you were either assigned when you became a subscriber, or one that you need to setup. Either call them or do what I did, which is visit their website.
You will have to get the server info from the school. It should be somewhere on a help page.
The usual incoming is something like pop.xxx.com (or .edu)
The outgoing is usually something like smtp.xxx.com (or .edu)
A good guess would be to replace the xxx with second half of your email address and try that.
I've now had my Sprint 6700 since August and am just now getting around to try and receive and send email. I envy my non-techy friend who has a Blackberry. I stand next to him at trade shows, and he can get and send email all day.
I did a search (email setup) and came up with ideas such as setting up exchange servers (whatever that is) and getting a mail2web account. I seem to be half way there now and can send email, but can't receive it. So what am I doing wrong? Here's my setup. Assume that I get my email at waldo.pdaphone.com
On page 4/4 of the messaging setup I would put this in.
Anyways, I can send and people receive my email, but I cannot receive it over my Sprint. Naturally I'd like the option of leaving it there and deleting it when i open my laptop.
My email from a server. I was assuming a hypothetical email address of waldo.pdaphone.com. I want my Sprint phone to get my inbound email when I'm on the road or away from my laptop.
is this your own domain? if so, yo uneed to get your mail servers from the company who is hosting your domain. if its not your domain and its a company you wortk for, you should get with your IT department and have them giuve you the servers. they may or may not let you acces mail but they can tell you that.
so, we need the actual servers and we can help you or you can search for more help. its the same way for conventional pop3 email accounts....
OK, I seem to be having some of the same problems. I can receive email on my yahoo account but cannot send. I have it set up as a POP3 type with Yahoo as the name. Incoming is pop.mail.yahoo.com and outgoing mail is smtp.mail.yahoo.com. Domain is blank. When I attempt to send it it stays in my draft section and not in my sent. I believe all of that info came up automatically. Do you know if this info is correct?
