Just use Activesync and sync your contacts over to your PC. And then sync it back later.

If you still need it, I have a contacts back-up program that runs great on my xv6700 and saves/restores to/from the storage card.

well, activesynch works well, so does spb backup (there's another thread that discusses other 'full backup' programs spb seems to be the winner there).

And the program being offered above, what is it?

But if you just want your contacts. schedule. and tasks - All you need to do is open your file explorer of choice and make a copy of 'pim.vol'.

It's in the root folder of your device, if you only see a file named 'pim' it's the same file you just don't see the extension.

Simply copy it to a safe place I.e. your storage card, and copy it back to your root folder once you have completed configuring your device, and before you Active Synch your data.

BAM, all the exact data back where it belongs...

I'm trying to copy the Pim file but I get a pop up saying that the file is being used and cannot be copied. What to do?

Thanks nuguy, I was needing to do this because my unit no longer syncing with PC.

MistaMan, try this:
Disable any/all "Today Screen" apps that may be accessing the calenar.
Close all apps thru memory settings.
Reset.
Open a file explorer like "Total Commander"
select copy, not move or cut.
Copy to mem card.

I'm having the same problem trying to paste my original PIM overwriting the empty new one... total commander would work? It says the file is in use or theres a sharing violation

Edit: Lucky44 you rock!

What I did is that I copied it to my memory card and then to my Pc. Worked fine.

So you have to use third party software to do a full backup? I suppose MS in their infinite wisdom figured WM5 didn't need it anymore, because the of the change to flash storage?

I purchased Spb Backup. When restored from a backup on a storage card with my G1000 and PPC 6600, I had to add a new device when I Active Synced. Then i had to resync all the files and there were always a few conflicts that never seemed to have much consequence. I always found that so annoying. Is it the same with the PPC 6700?

you don't need any third party program to back-up your contacts. All you have to do is eliminate the items on your Today screen (Tasks, Calendar, etc) otherwise it will tell you the new empty file is in use and cannot be overwritten by your original. Once overwritten, enable your Today screen icons again and maybe even a soft reset to be safe.

sorry to dig up old thread, but how do you completely disable EVERYTHING that could possibly be using the pim.vol file?

i saved my old pim.vol, hard reset and now i want to revive my contacts to its previous state. the methods above did not work still has the sharing error. do you need to do more than just Settings/Today/Items (uncheck all) click Ok?

that method worked for me Th3S3raph... I suggest soft resetting and fiddling around...it's bound to work like that unless you already reinstalled a program that could be trying to access the today screen
