moved programs to storage card: icons missing and device freezes

I moved some program files from the Program folder to my storage card, using copy/paste, then delete from the original location (in order to free up main memory.) Now those items which were in my slots under the Windows flag, have generic (missing) icons, and choosing them doesn't do anything.

When I navigate to the storage card with File Explorer, the programs are there and open just fine.

When I select Windows>Settings> then pick Menu (so I can get rid of these) the device freezes and needs to be soft reset.

When navigating to Windows>Programs> the moved programs are with generic icon, and tapping brings up an error dialogue box that says the program can't be found.

Is there any way to fix this without 1) hard reset 2) having to reinstall all these programs? Thanks for whatever help anyone can offer!

Paul

You need to edit the shortcuts in a program like notepad or if you have Resco File Explorer then you can use "open with>mobile word" and point them to the new path.

When editing them via notepad you will have to copy them to your desktop.
Resco File Explorer lets you edit on the device.

I don't know how to open shortcuts with Mobile Word without Resco File Explorer.

Using Resco Explorer does make it really easy. Navigate to your Start Menu\Programs folder. Press and hold on the shortcut you want to change, and select the Shortcut tab at the bottom. Then click on the elipses (...) to the far right of the target line. In the new window that opens, click on the down arrow in the Folder box. This will change to a ladder view and you can navigate out the the Storage Card and find your folders and files.

Another note, some programs are hard coded to look for files in a specific location, or have registry entries that point to a specific location. These files 'might not' work correctly since you have moved them.

Good luck

I think it's a lot easier to remove all the programs and reinstall them to the card. Besides the shortcuts there may be registry values that need to be changed in order for all those programs to work perfectly. You could easilly spend twice as much time getting them right as it would take to reinstall them.
