iGuidance 3.0

I just got V. 3.0 too, and love the improvements (bid icons, etc) over the previous versions. I set a button (recorder) to go directly to the app so its easier to access when mounted on my motorcycle, and made sure that frequent destinations are set as favorites.

I have one issue for which someone may have a quick solution. The... voice... prompts... are... very... slow... I cannot figure this one out. I appreciate any ideas!

Turning off your phone (the wireless radio) will speed up the voice prompts to normal speed. Unfortunately, this solution defeats the purpose of having a PDA phone. I really hope the software folks at iGuidance are working on a fix. The voice directions are useless, as by the time you hear the guidance, you have zoomed past the turn.

I have a few ideas why voice prompts would be slow, based on the older 2.x version.

1. Your GPS is too slow or you have not set the fastest supported speed for your port.
2. You have too many apps running in the background.
3. You have the map zoomed out in a very dense detail area.. Try zooming in.
4. In general I find the last turn prompt comes AT or in the middle of the road. You will get several prompts before this, use them instead.. In metric mode 200m is almost always when the turning lane begins or when you should already be signaling and preparing to turn.
5. Map data is only accurate to 30m, in tight street areas the combo of map and GPS errors makes things a little off.

You don't have to leave the phone part off to speed up the voice prompts. Just turn it off, start up iGuidance, and then turn it back on. The voice prompts should be fine until you make/recive a phone call.

Thanks for the work-around...

Hopefully this will be fixed quickly... otherwise I really like the updates in V. 3.0...

...or until your phone initiates an Active Sync connection. I tried your suggestion and it worked great...for about 20 seconds. Then active sync used my data connection and the voice was back to it's normal slow self.

edit: my response was for Stephen's post two above mine...

thanks for the replies. here's another quick question. last night I wanted to find a blockbuster. it didn't fit into any of the POI's categories available on the software. is there a business name search option?

I sent iNav an email a couple of days back and received this reply from them yesterday.

Hi Mike:
From what we have heard from endusers, the problem does NOT exist if you turn off your wi-fi/GPRS feature on your PPC phone.

Thank you.

I think I'm finally fed up with TomTom. I was ready to take the plunge with iGuidance until I heard about this issue. This is one of the key features of GPS. I'm hoping they can get this fixed soon.

I wouldn't say that it defeats the purpose entirely.... just means you'll have to prioritize a bit.
