Do a hard reset and reinstall all your apps, don't resotre from backup.

for some reason I thought you meant IE link, you can change the IE button to whatever you want by going to Start>Settings>Buttons select the button you want and use the list to assign a new function to that button. The IE button has 2 functions depending on how long you depress the button. A short depress launches IE while a long depress launches the comm manager. Give that a shot and see what happens.

I did a short press. The IE screen momentarily loads and then closes. I explored to the Windows directory and verified that the executable is there.

Have you done the hack to store your temporary internet files on the storage card? If so, this is a known issue and what is causing IE to automatically close down. You need to undue the hack as it is not compatible with the 6700.

I have had this exact same problem... and I think I can trace it to .NET 2.0 installation... have you installed that?

If PIE Plus has run out of its trial period, then this will also happen to to PIE. Solution is to uninstall PIE Plus in Safe mode.
