What the heck are you guys using for driving directions?!?!

Okay, ever since I've had my 6700 I can't find a good program for driving directions. When I used to own the Treo 650 I used a program called Directory Assistant (http://home.triad.rr.com/rlwhitt/palm/#da). Is there anything similar to this for Windows? I just can't believe I'm unable to find something!

m.yp.com

This is the same database Directory Assistance on Palm uses.

I use iGuidance GPS personally.

Thanks. But I'd like to have an actual program for doing this. I'd like to be able to save locations, and pull up addresses from my Contact list.

VEM has improved but it doesn't let you save addresses or anything...you can, however, pull up an address that is on file with any of your contacts but that's a clunkier way of doing it than having VEM store addresses for you.

my personal gripe about VEM is that there's no way to find out what the latest version is without installing the newest from their website and seeing for yourself...kinda dumb.

I use google maps... you have to install an emulator to get it to work, but it's easily explained on this forum... search for "Google Maps"... it does save addresses too

someone should turn this thread into a google maps vs. virtual earth mobile discussion because no one seems to know which one is better. i don't.

To be honest... I decided to try out that Action Info program because it claimed to have driving directions. I'm actually very impressed with that part of the application. You have the ability to select locations from your Contacts. It will save past locations. Plus, it has a very simple to use/follow interface.

I use TomTom Navigator. It's really not that expensive and you get a moving map, etc.

Yeah, one day I'll move to a GPS solution. But for now, I'm looking for a non-GPS program to fill the need.

I say virtual earth mobile all the way. Can't beat the price. Much more intuitive to use than google mobile. Give it a try:

I must have been using an older version, because this one actually works! I like it. I'll probably hang on to this one. I like that the business lookup can search the viewable map. Finally, I think I've got something!!!

ok, is that Virtual Earth Mobile and if so, could you post a link to the cab file? I did a google search on it and it seems to come up with an older version.

Thanks!

yea that's wack. if you search google for virtual earth mobile you get their website and the version is 1.50:
http://www.viavirtualearth.com/vve/G.../VEMobile.ashx

but the one attached to the blog appears to be version 1.64 - it also is a little more than twice as large (the .cab file) so clearly there are a lot of added functions...

why wouldn't they update their website?!? lol

Personally I like Handmark's Pocket Express application, even if it is 6.99 per month. It provides a wealth of services and has an awesome user interface. I can't imagine life without it.
