DSOD causing me to miss phone calls

Alright, it's finally happened. Due to DSOD, I've missed several important phone calls. The phone made no noise, didn't twitch at the voicemails, and I only noticed when I tried to use it and the screen didn't come on.

There HAS to be a way to get around this. Missing calls, it's just unacceptable.

I have a bunch of stuff installed to the SD card, but none of it was running when I last powered the phone off. None of my Today plugins are installed to the SD card or access the SD card. I'm using:

- PhoneAlarm
- vBirthday 4 deluxe
plus the standard date/messages/tasks ones.

I've also got Wizbar Advance 2 installed. I'm also using AEBPlus to map the keyboard.

I'm using a Telus 6700 with the new rom upgrade.

Any ideas? Please!

One of the issues, as far as I can tell, is a problem of iconic refreshing. When I have no icons in my start or programs menu from programs on the card, it happens much less. Not to say that I never get BSOD, but less. Hope this helps.

No, all ringtones are in Windows/Rings. Yes it has happened before, but I only noticed it last night because I missed meeting up with a friend. He was trying to call me, and I had no idea.

Unfortunatley, the only way to avoid the DSOD is to remove the SD card from the device when not using it. Since I've been doing that (for several months now), the device has never DSODed on me. Fortunately, I have a case design that makes it easy for me to do this.

But of course this is completely intolerable that this critical bug continues to go unanswered by UTStarcom and Microsoft. But what can you do?

I use no today plugins and have this problem occasionally (maybe once or twice a week). It's a real headache--I've gotten in the habit of punching the power button occasionally just to make sure the 6700's still alive. Usually, I wake up in the morning to find the phone DSOD. Sometimes this is accompanied by a completely dead battery. The only thing that routinely writes to the storage card is PMRecorder. I store other things there (like iGuidance maps) but I think it's the writing, not reading, that seems to trigger problems.

aside from taking out sdcard only when u need it, the other thing is check your PPC often throughout the day. You will catch a few of the DSODs and just popout the card or soft reset to clear the issue.

Happening to me since Oct/Nov 2005. It's a bitch.

I tried many things listed on this forum...none seem to work. If something works, it works for a week, then DSODs comes back again, like weeds.

MSFT and HTC absolutely dropped the ball on this - I spend hrs w/ HTC tech support on this an they have done NOTHING to move this forward.

A follow-up on this tired old subject (MS/HTC, PLEASE FIX THIS!):

DSOD just got me again. It was triggered this time at the conclusion of a phone call. Since I use PMRecorder and save calls to the card, I'm going to change to saving to device instead. This will, of course, result in a steady reduction of available storage memory. Gotta get into the habit of purging calls in PMRecorder regularly after checking to see if all are archived.

I am normally an optimist, but this PPC is almost through it's life cycle (meaning new model out soon, thus this will be discontinued) IMO only... so I highly doubt HTC/Microsoft will spend any more money/time on fixing this DSOD issue, IF they even know about it. If they know about it, just MAYBE next phone(s) will no longer have this issue.

I have the Telus PPC6700 and havn't had any DSOD issues.. I tried phone alarm a while ago but I consider it buggy.. Had some button lockup issues when calls where comming in, it also seems to be the cause of several text and email lockup issues.
